Weather Forecast Today LIVE Updates: At least 20 people are feared trapped in landslides in two locations in the Patan tehsil of Western Maharashtra’s Satara district which has been battered by heavy rains, the police said on Friday. Thirty two more people were killed in another landslide in Taliye village of Mahadev Taluka in Raigad.

Around 35 houses were buried under debris and several people are still feared to be missing or trapped under it. The Indian Air Force’s Mi-17 helicopters rescued two persons stranded in flooded areas of Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, said a defense release.

Widespread heavy to very heavy showers are likely to continue across India’s west coast for the next two days, following which the intensity of the rain is likely to reduce.

East and adjoining Central India will also receive heavy to very heavy rains for the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) latest weather bulletin. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are predicted to receive heavy falls today, the IMD said. Isolated heavy to very heavy falls are likely in these regions on 25th and 26th July.

The IMD has also predicted an increase in widespread rainfall activity in the northeastern states of India from 26th July onwards.

Maharashtra: Two persons rescued by IAF choppers in flood-hit Ratnagiri

The Indian Air Force's Mi-17 helicopters rescued two persons stranded in inundated areas of coastal Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra on Friday, said a defense release. The Air Force has kept its two Mi-17V5 and two Mi-17 helicopters ready for rescue operations in the region which has been battered by heavy rains, it said. It did not give specifics of the two rescue operations by choppers. The Western Naval Command has also deployed seven rescue teams along with its helicopters in Ratnagiri and the adjoining Raigad district, it said. --PTI

Maharashtra: At least 36 killed in two landslides

Amidst incessant rainfall across coastal and inland Maharashtra, at least 36 people were killed in two separate incidents of landslides in the state. As many as 32 died following a landslide in Taliye village in Mahad Taluka, Raigad on Thursday. Around 35 houses were buried under debris and several people are still feared to be missing or trapped under it.

Mumbai: Heavy rainfall likely in some parts of the city today, says IMD

Light rainfall continued in Mumbai on Friday. The city recorded humid conditions and a cloudy sky on Friday morning. In 24 hours ending at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory recorded 19.4 mm rain while the Colaba observatory recorded 12.8 mm of rain in the same period. Both fall in the light rainfall category.According to the 24 hours forecast issued by the IMD Mumbai, moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs is likely with the possibility of very heavy rainfall at isolated places through Friday. There is also a possibility of occasional gusty winds reaching 50 to 60 km per hour and in some areas reaching up to 70 km per hour. Read the full report here.

Cloudy skies, moderate rainfall over Pune on Friday

Pune will receive light to moderate rain on Friday and will experience overcast sky conditions.


The 24-hour rainfall recorded in parts of Pune city on Friday was Pashan – 12.2mm, Lohegaon – 6.2mm and Shivajinagar – 5.6mm.

Since June 1, the city has received 223mm, which was short by 17 per cent from normal. Pune district, has however, recorded normal rainfall which stood at 388mm (till Thursday).

An off-shore trough runs between Gujarat and Kerala will aid in the continuing monsoon rainfall over Pune. Read the full report here.

On second wettest day in 52 years, Mahabaleshwar gets 802 mm of rain in 33 hours

Earlier this week, Zhengzhou in central China received 617.1 mm of rain in a span of three days. If there was a near equivalent case, or even an instance when more rain was recorded anywhere in recent days, it has to be at Mahabaleshwar, the popular hill station in Satara district of Maharashtra.

Mahabaleshwar recorded 802 mm within 33 hours, by 5.30 pm on Thursday. Of this, 480 mm rain was recorded during the 24-hour period between Wednesday and Thursday, making it the wettest ever July day and second ever wettest day since 1970.

It was an especially rainy day even for a hill station which, every year, receives extremely heavy rain. The average July rainfall here is 3,182 mm. July and August are the wettest months during the monsoon season with a total average of 5,530 mm. Annually, the hill station records an average of 5,710 mm of rain. Read the full report here.

Several roads in Kolhapur submerged, Panchganga river flows close to danger mark

With Kolhapur district receiving incessant rain over the last two days, several roads in the district, with submerged stretches, have been shut for traffic, said state government officials. The water level of Panchganga river has also risen close to the dangerous level, prompting the Irrigation department to release water from Koyna Dam in Satara. The water level in Krishna river in Sangli has also been rising.

“We received over 100 mm rainfall in last two days. The water level of Panchaganga river near Rajaram Bridge has risen close to 40 feet. The danger level lies at 43 feet. Hence, we are closely monitoring the situation,” said an official. Read the full report here.

Mumbai-Karjat train traffic restored: Central Railway

The train traffic between the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in south Mumbai and Karjat as well as that between CSMT and Kasara has been restored after nearly 21 hours, the Central Railway said on Thursday night. The train traffic on the Ambernath- Lonavala section was suspended on Wednesday as heavy rains caused water logging and boulder crashes on the route, while in some places the tracks were even washed away. Maharashtra: Navy, Coast Guard helicopters arrive in Mahad to airlift people stranded in floods

Amidst heavy showers, Navy and Coast Guard helicopters arrived in Mahad in Maharashtra’s Raigad district to airlift people stranded in floods.

As the flood water rose, people were seen rushing to the terraces of their homes, awaiting help. Some even took refuge at the state transport bus stop.

Flood-like situation in parts of Goa; several rivers in spate after heavy rains

Several parts of Goa, including Sattari and Bicholim tehsils in north and Dharbandora in south, are reeling under a flood-like situation, where a large number of houses got inundated as the water level of some rivers rose following heavy rains over the past few days, officials said on Friday. However, no loss of human life has been reported so far due to it, they said.

"At least 100 houses in Sattari tehsil have been under water since Thursday night as the water level of the Mahadayi river increased due to incessant rains that has been lashing the state since over a week now," a senior official said.

"There were no fatalities, but flood-like situation exists. Those people whose houses have gone completely under water have shifted to safer places on their own," he said. Almost half of Velus village located near Valpoi town in Sattari, is inundated, while several other villages were cut off as roads and culverts are under water, eyewitnesses said. (Reuters)

Delhi: Light rain likely in city

Delhiites woke up to a humid Friday morning and the minimum temperature settled at 26.3 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average. The relative humidity at 8:30 am was 84 per cent. The weather office has forecast partly cloudy skies with the possibility of light rain or thundershowers. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 35 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, the national capital recorded a high of 34 degrees Celsius and a low of 25.6 degrees Celsius. (PTI)

Amidst intense flooding, NDRF shifts residents of Chikhali in Kohlapur district to safer areas

Amidst intense flooding, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) shifted people from Chikhali in Kohlapur district to safer locations. Several other parts of the state are also facing flooding due to incessant heavy rainfall.

Widespread rainfall was observed across the west coast -- including Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra and coastal Karnataka -- yesterday.

Extremely heavy showers were witnessed in some parts of Madhya Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Chief Minister held an emergency meeting to take stock of the flood situation in the Ratnagiri and Raigad districts. He has directed the Disaster Management units and concerned departments to stay alert and start rescue operations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also assured all possible help from Centre to mitigate the situation. IMD has placed Raigad and Ratnagiri on red alert with chances of extremely heavy rain at isolated places on Thursday. Marathwada is very likely to receive widespread rainfall during the next one to two days.

Breaking an all time record of highest 24 hour rainfall in July, Mahabaleshwar recorded 480 mm rain with 24 hours ending at 8.30am on Thursday. Before this, the highest 24 hour rainfall was recorded on July 7, 1977 at 439.8 mm.

On Thursday, maximum temperatures were markedly below normal in some parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, and appreciably above normal in parts of West Bengal, Rajasthan, Bihar and Gujarat.
