Everything you can watch on Apple TV+

It's been a while since Apple launched its TV streaming service. Since the first shows began airing in November 2019 many more shows have been added, and many more people have subscribed to the service (which costs £4.99/$4.99 a month, although there are free trials that mean you can watch Apple TV+ for free.)

As of May 2021, Apple TV+ had passed 40 million subscribers. Of course this figure is nothing compared to the number of people who subscribe to Netflix (209 million by spring 2021), Prime Video (175 million by April 2021), or Disney+ (over 100 million subscribers by May 2021) but it's a start.

What you will be wondering is what these 40 million people are watching. Here in this article we will run through the shows that are on Apple TV+ right now - and the second seasons and new shows that are coming to TV+ soon. 

Below you will find details of all the shows currently on Apple TV+ including Ted Lasso, Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories, Defending Jacob staring Chris Evans, Hailee Steinfeld in Dickinson, and The Morning Show staring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell.

You'll also find movies like Cherry staring Tom Holland, On the Rocks with Bill Murray and Rashida Jones, and Greyhound written by and staring Tom Hanks. Plus documentaries such as Oprah and Prince Harry in The Me You Don’t See. 

And my personal favourites Mythic Quest and Trying.

You may also be interested to learn that Apple TV+ has received 35 Emmy nominations, of which 20 were for the acclaimed comedy series Ted Lasso with Jason Sudeikis in the lead role. The other 15 nominations went to Mythic Quest, Central Park, Servant, Billie Eilish: The World's A Little Blurry, Boys State, Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special, Bruce Springsteen's Letter To You, The Year Earth Changed and Carpool Karaoke: The Series. The Emmy's will be held on 20 September 2021.

How to get Apple TV+

If you want to watch Apple TV+ shows you will need a Apple device, smart TV or a streaming device that's offers the Apple TV app - see our complete list of such devices here: Smart TVs and streamers with AirPlay or Apple TV+.

You can subscribe on Apple's website here, or via the Apple TV app on your device.

1. Open the Apple TV app on your device.
2. Click on Apple TV+.
3. Subscribe or select the trial offer if available.
4. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.

You might be wondering whether there is a way to watch Apple TV+ content without having to pay for an Apple TV+ subscription. Apple did allow non-subscribers access to certain shows back in April 2020. At that time a number of great shows could be watched for free. Unfortunately that offer has now passed - we hope that Apple makes a similar offer again.

As we explained in our article about what you can watch for free on Apple TV+ the following shows were free, albeit for a limited time:

There are other ways to watch Apple TV+ content for free though as we explain in how to get Apple TV+ for free. You can watch the first episode of many series for free - in fact there are 38 show pilots available to watch for free.

Apple also offers a free three-month trial to anyone who buys a qualifying Apple product. However, the company used to offer free one-year trials with the purchase of a new Apple product, which Apple actually ended up extending to July 2021 - so in the end those who started a free subscription in November 2019 had 19 months free access to Apple TV+.

There are other ways in which you can get a longer trial of Apple TV+. For example if you are a student you can get Apple TV with half price Apple Music. There's also a deal for people lucky enough to get their hands on a PlayStation 5 - they qualify for six months of Apple TV+ for free.

Even without purchasing a new Apple product you can take advantage of a free seven day trial, or a free one-month trial if you sign up for Apple One. Another thing to keep in mind is that even if you pay for one month (£4.99/$4.99) you can cancel later. Read: How to cancel Apple TV+ subscription. So you could pay £4.99/$4.99 for one month and watch all the Apple TV+ shows that interest you.

There is a point of confusion that we need to address though. We've seen Apple TV+ subscribers asking why they have to pay for movies and shows from iTunes when they already subscribe to the Apple TV+ service.

The confusion comes from the fact that Apple promotes a lot of content from various sources inside the TV app, including shows it allows users to rent from the iTunes Store. People are understandably confused that subscribing to Apple TV+ only gives them a library of around 40 shows, rather than a whole back catalogue like that offered by Netflix and Amazon. Apple has been spending billions on creating lots of new shows to be streamed via the Apple TV app.

We have details of the shows that are currently streaming below and in the following section you can find out more about the new shows coming to Apple TV+. These are in alphabetical order.

1971

This is a music documentary about 1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything. It's an eight-part documentary series focusing on artists who are still popular 50 years later, including The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, The Who, Joni Mitchell and Lou Reed.

In the documentary series, which premiered on 21 May 2021, we get to see lots of clips from the archives, but also interviews with those who were there at the time.

9/11: Inside the President's War Room

Apple TV+ is set to stream a documentary about 9/11. The documentary will air on 11 September 2021 - which will be twenty years since 9/11 happened. It will include interviews with George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice.

Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories started streaming on Apple TV+ in March 2020. In one story a World War II pilot's plane magically travels through space and time from the past and into the present day.

'Once Upon A Time' co-creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are executive producers on the show. Each episode is disconnected, but there is one compelling narrative running throughout.

The Banker

Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie star in this film about two 1950's African American entrepreneurs, Bernard Garrett and Joe Morris, who recruited white man, Matt Steiner, to pose as the head of their business empire.

The movie debuted at AFI Fest on 21 November 2019, was released in US cinemas on 6 March, and arrived on Apple TV+ on 20 March 2020.

Beastie Boys Story

This documentary is, as you'd expect, about the legacy of the Beastie Boys.

It was set to premiere in US cinemas on 3 April but that was put on hold by the Coronavirus Lockdown.

The Beastie Boys Story arrived on Apple TV+ on 24 April 2020.

Becoming You

Becoming You follows one hundred children from different parts of the world during their first 2,000 days in life.

The series of six episodes includes children from Nepal, Japan or Borneo. The narrator is Olivia Colman (The Crown).

It arrived on Apple TV on 11 November.

Boys State

This acclaimed documentary aired at Sundance and started streaming on Apple TV+ on 14 August 2020. It's about an experiment in Texas in which 1,000 17-year old boys try to form their own government and try to resolve all conflicts that arise during the process. 

Steve Jobs' widow Laurene Powell Jobs is one of the producers behind the film.

Boys State won a Cinema Eye Audience Choice award in March 2021. It's thought Apple might be positing it for an Oscar nomination.

Calls

This is one of Apple's first international series, an English language adaption of French series Calls. Each story is based around the audio recording of a 999 (911) call.

The series consists of a nine 12-minute episodes, all of which have a common connection. Viewers are encouraged to both listen and watch carefully.

The series' actors include a host of famous names including Nick Jonas, Lily Collins, Rosario Dawson, Joey King, Pedro Pascal, Mark Duplass, Karen Gillian, Judy Greer, Aubrey Plaza, Danny Pudi, Paul Walter Hauser, Jaeden Martell, Riley Keough, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ben Schwartz and Jennifer Tilly.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Calls "takes storytelling innovation to the next level, allowing audiences to experience short stories through real-life audio sources and minimal visuals."

All nine episodes were released on 19 March 2021.

Central Park

This is an animated musical comedy series staring Kristen Bell and Josh Gad (who last worked together on Frozen), as well as Hamilton's Leslie Odom Jr and Daveed Diggs, Tituss Burgess from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Kathryn Hahn (Wandavision, Transparent) and Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci.

The series is based on a family of Central Park caretakers who have to save the world.

It's from the creator of Bob's Burgers, Loren Bouchard and is co-written with Josh Gad and Nora Smith. Apple is committed to 26 episodes over two seasons.

Central Park arrived on Apple TV+ on 29 May 2020.

Will there be a second season? Yes

Season 2 premieres on Friday 25 June with new episodes published every week throughout the summer.

There will be at least two more seasons of the animated comedy series.

Cherry is a high-profile film from Anthony and Joseph Russo. The Russo brothers were behind the latest two Avengers movies.

It's based on a true story about a war veteran named Walker who has become so addicted to Oxycontin that he decides to become a bank robber to afford the drug.

Tom Holland (Spider-Man) plays the lead role. Watch the trailer below.

Cherry arrived on Apple TV+ on Friday 12 March.

Dads

A documentary that explores the roles of fathers in modern society, comparing the father-child relationships of famous people with those of ordinary people.

This documentary is from Bryce Dallas Howard - who is the daughter of Ron Howard.

Will there be a second season? Yes

The new season, coming later in 2021, will consist of ten episodes and the focus is on "internationally recognized leaders". The following personalities are involved: Viola Davis, Jane Fonda, Ava DuVernay, Billy Porter, Andre Leon Talley, Sandra Oh, Laird Hamilton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Dear...

This documentary series tells the biographies of famous people including Oprah Winfrey, Gloria Steinem, Spike Lee, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Yara Shahidi, Stevie Wonder, Aly Raisman, Misty Copeland, Big Bird and more, told through letters sent by people who's lives they have change.

Dear... arrived on Apple TV+ on 5 June 2020.

Chris Evans (Captain America) stars as a father who discovers that his 14-year-old son, played by Jaeden Martell (It) is suspected of killing his classmate in this short series based on a novel by William Landry. Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) also stars in the series.

Defending Jacob arrived on Apple TV+ on 24 April 2020.

According to Parrot Analytics research published in November, Defending Jacob was Apple's most in-demand original series.

Defending Jacob, staring Chris Evans, Michelle Dockery and Jaeden Martell, is now available on DVD or Bu-ray (buy it on US Amazon or UK Amazon).

Will there be a second season? No:

Defending Jacob was a limited series so a second series is unlikely.

Hailee Steinfeld (of Pitch Perfect 2&3, Enders Game and Edge of Seventeen), stars in Dickinson - a series about American poet Emily Dickinson, born in 1830.

It's a coming-of-age comedy about the early life of Dickinson. It's a period drama that has been reimagined for a modern audience.

It also stars Jane Krakowski (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, 30 Rock) as the mother of Emily Dickinson and Toby Huss as her father. The show is written by Alena Smith (The Newsroom, The Affair). Billie Eilish provided part of the series' soundtrack.

Will there be a second season? Yes:

New episodes arrived on 8 January. Unlike the first season, which was added in full in November, Apple TV+ will first publish three new episodes on Friday 8 January and then add one more each Friday.

In the second season, Emily Dickinson "will be torn from her private literary life and brought into the limelight as she struggles with the feeling that the pursuit of fame could be a dangerous game for her," writes Apple in the announcement of season two.

Will there be a third season? Yes

A third season has now also been contractually agreed, and should be expected in late 2021 or early 2022.

Doug Unplugs

Premiering on 13 November, Doug Unplugs is an animated series for children from Dreamworks Animation about Doug - a young robot who decides to go out into the world. With the help of his friend Emma he discovers that there is a lot to learn from people.

Earth at Night in Colour

This is one of two nature documentaries from Offspring Films (the production company behind Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II).

The first series of Earth at Night in Color premiered on 4 December. As the name suggests, we get to see a number of different animals during the night with the help of the latest camera technology. The narrator is Tom Hiddleston - Loki in Marvel's superhero movies.

A second season premiered on 16 April 2021.

The Elephant Queen

Victoria Stone and Mark Deeble embedded themselves for four years together with the family of a giant elephant matriarch named Athena. The result is this documentary film that follows the elephants' search of food and water after their watering hole dries up.

Fireball

Fireball: Visitors from Darker Worlds is a new documentary from Werner Herzog and Clive Oppenheimer about meteors and comets. It debuted on 13 November.

This Werner Herzog documentary looks at "how shooting stars, meteorites and deep impacts have focused the human imagination on other realms and worlds, and on our past and our future," according to Apple.

For All Mankind

This space drama comes from Star Trek veteran Ronald D. Moore and is set in a universe where the Soviet Union made it to the moon first and the space race never ended. It stars Joel Kinnaman (Altered Carbon), Michael Dorman, Jodi Balfour and Sarah Jones.

The second season started on 19 February 2021.

The new series takes place with Ronald Reagan as president. It's 1983 in the alternative timeline where the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union never ended. Here's the season two trailer:

Will there be a third: Yes, a third season is planned.

Fraggle Rock - Rock On

This new series of shorts brings Jim Henson's Fraggles back to our TV screens. Each episode is five minutes long.

This is a remake of a 1990's US show. The series follows four kids who must release fictional characters from works of literature with help from a ghost in a bookstore.

Will there be a second season? Yes:

Season 2 is already airing on Apple TV+. New episodes arrived on 9 October.

Greatness Code

This is a sports documentary featuring the likes of LeBron James and Usain Bolt.

This movie - which went straight to Apple TV+ because COVID-19 closed cinemas - is about a commander of the US Navy attempting to escort a convoy of ships that are under attack by German submarines. It was written by and stars Tom Hanks.

Hala

This film is a coming-of-age story about a young Muslim girl set in America. It was screened at the Sundance Festival. It stars Geraldine Viswanathan, is directed by Minhal Baig and Jada Pinkett Smith is the executive producer.

Sesame Workshop

Apple has a deal with Sesame Workshop for this programme that teaches kids to code.

Helpsters features a new muppet, Cody, who is described as "a monster who loves to help". This is one of several projects in the works in collaboration with Children's Television Workshop.

Will there be a second season? Yes.

New episodes of Helpsters arrived on 16 October.

Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth

In this animated short a seven-year-old learns about the wonders of the planet from his parents.

Meryl Streep narrates and Chris O'Dowd, Jacob Tremblay, and Ruth Negga provide their voices.

Home

This ten episode series tours the world's most innovative homes and meeting the people who designed them.

Home Before Dark

This mystery drama is based on a true story. 11-year old aspiring journalist Hilde Lysiak discovers a cold case murder covered up by her town. Staring Brooklynn Prince and Jim Sturgess.

Season two started streaming on Friday 11 June.

Letter To You - Bruce Springsteen 

On 23 October, Bruce Springsteen's twentieth studio album Letter to You was released exclusively on Apple Music, and the same day a documentary of the same name was released on Apple TV+.

In the documentary we get to see how it went during the recording when Bruce Springsteen was reunited with The E Street Band. We also see archive material that has not been shown before.

Lisey's Story

This eight-part miniseries starring Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Right, Crazy, Stupid, Love, What Madie Knew) is an adaptation of the Stephen King novel with King writing all the episodes. The series has been produced by JJ Abrams.

It premiered in June 2021.

Little America

Co-written by Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon who wrote The Big Sick. This show is about American immigrants and is produced by Master of None co-creator/executive producer Alan Yang.

Nanjiani appeared on stage during the Apple event and revealed that each episode will be directed by an immigrant or the children of an immigrant. It is based on the true stories of immigrants, many of which were printed in Epic Magazine's Little America series.

Will there be a second series? Yes.

Little Voice

Little Voice is described as a dramedy set in New York, with characters attempting to find their 'authentic voice'. It will be produced by J.J. Abrams with original music by Sara Bareilles.

There are ten episodes of the show and it arrived on Apple TV+ in July 2020.

Long Way Up

This show follows Ewan McGegor and his friend Charlie Boorman on a 100 day motorcycle trip through Latin America on Harley-Davidsons. It started streaming on 18 September.

Losing Alice

This is a psychological thriller from Israel. Alice (played by Ayelet Zurer) is a 48-year-old film director, who feels irrelevant since raising her family and becomes obsessed with a young screenwriter, Sophie.

The series, which consists of eight episodes, has previously been broadcast in Israel.

Losing Alice premieres on 22 January. Apple has released this trailer:

Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special

Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special is available exclusively on Apple TV + this Christmas. Apparently this year is the 25th anniversary of Carey's hit All I Want For Christmas Is You.

Carey will play the leading role in the Christmas special. According to Apple, it's a journey around the world in search of the Christmas spirit. The special is to combine music, dance and animation. Carey has invited numerous  stars to her Christmas special who will sing one or two hits with her, including Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, and Snoop Dogg.

In this new series, which premiered on 21 May 2021, Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey discuss mental illness.

In the five-party documentary series, Oprah and Prince Harry discuss the sensitive topic of mental illness with a wide range of famous artists and athletes. Guests on the show include Lady Gaga and Glenn Close.

This drama, based on the book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV by Brian Stelter, stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell. The book - and show - looks at the lives of morning TV presenters.

Thanks to The Morning Show Apple received its first Emmy in September 2020. It is the first time that a streaming service has won an Emmy in the main categories within its first year.

Actor Billy Crudup received the Emmy for best supporting actor for his performance as television manager Cory Ellison.

The Morning Show was nominated for an Emmy in a total of seven categories, including best leading actor (Steve Carell), best leading actress (Jennifer Aniston) and best director of a drama series (Mimi Leder).

Crudup prevailed against top-class actor colleagues, including Mark Duplass, also from The Morning Show, and actors from the series Succession, Better call Saul, The Handmaid's Tale and Westworld.

Will there be a second series? Yes

The Coronavirus pandemic caused filming delays, but the second season is in the works and is set to start streaming on Friday 17 September. 

Comedian and actor Hasan Minahj has joined the existing cast for season two.

The Mosquito Coast

This adaptation of the novel The Mosquito Coast tells the story of inventor Allie Fox (Justin Theroux) fleeing the United States to Mexico with his family in order to escape the American authorities.

Justin Theroux's uncle Paul Theroux published the novel and later made it into a movie staring Harrison Ford.

It premiered on TV+ on 30 April 2021.

Will there be a second season? Yes.

Mr. Corman

This drama series is written, produced and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Third Rock from the Sun) as a school teacher who dreams of becoming an artist. The problem is that he suffers from anxiety, loneliness and lack of self-confidence.

It will premiere on 6 August 2021. The TV series is produced by the film company A24 - which Apple is said to be in talks to buy.

This excellent comedy from Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day is set in a video game development studio. McElhenney stars in the show as the creative mind behind Mythic Quest. Games studio Ubisoft is involved too.

The first season premiered on 7 February 2020. There was a special 'Quarantine' episode filmed while the team were in Lockdown that aired on 22 May 2020 and a second special episode 'Evernight' that showed the aftermath of the Coronavirus lockdown that aired on 16 April 2021.

The second season started streaming on Friday 7 May 2021 and is about the team trying to develop a new expansion to Mythic Quest.

Written and directed by Sofia Coppola and staring Bill Murray, this film follows a young mother (Rashida Jones) who reconnects with her larger-than-life playboy father (Murray) on an adventure through New York.

It arrived on Apple TV+ in October.

Oprah's Book Club

This book discussion programme used to be a segment of the Oprah Winfrey Show but it is now airing on Apple TV+. So far there are seven episodes.

The Oprah Conversation

Apple has signed up Oprah Winfrey to create original programmes. The multi-year deal will see Winfrey create "original programs that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world," according to a statement from Apple.

So far the series includes 'Uncomfortable Conversations With a Black Man', 'How to be an Antiracist', and conversations with Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton and Barack Obama.

Other documentaries said to be in the works include Toxic Labor, which looks into sexual harassment in the workplace, and one that will focus on mental health (it is said that Prince Harry is collaborating on that documentary.)

Oprah Talks COVID-19

In this one-off Oprah FaceTimes celebs about the global pandemic.

Ted Lasso is one of the most popular series on Apple TV+ and the hit comedy series has been nominated for the highly acclaimed Critics Choice Awards.

It stars Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, a character that appeared in an NBC Sports video a few years ago. The character is an American football coach who goes to coach football in the UK despite not knowing how to play football (or soccer as it's known in the US) and thinking only in terms of American Football.

It's well worth a watch and has been on Apple TV+ since 14 August.

Will there be a second season? Yes:

Ted Lasso has been renewed for a second and third season. The second season premiered on 23 July 2021 with new episodes available every Friday until 8 October. 

Sadly it seems that the popular series will end after the third season, at least that's what scriptwriter Bill Lawrence has revealed.

Tehran

This espionage thriller comes from Israel and it premiered on 25 September 2020. The bulk of dialogue is in Hebrew and Farsi.

It's about an Israeli computer hacker agent whose first mission in Iran's capital is to disable a nuclear reactor. The mission fails, the agent goes rogue, and she gets romantically involved with a pro-democracy activist.

The World's A Little Blurry - Billy Eilish

The World's A Little Blurry is a documentary about Billie Eilish who has won a host of awards and was Apple's first Artist of the Year.

In the documentary we get to follow the artist during 2019, which began with the launch of her debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?. Apple has paid $25 million for the screening rights to the film, which is directed by RJ Cutler and produced in collaboration with the record company Interscope Records.

The documentary premiered on 26 February 2021.

Tiny World

Tiny World premiered on Apple TV+ in October 2020, with a second season landing on 16 April 2021.

In each episode we get to see what the world looks like from the perspective of small creatures.

The narrator is Paul Rudd - superhero Ant-Man in Marvel's films.

The first season of Trying arrived on Apple TV+ on 1 May 2020  and the second season just over a year later on 21 May 2021.

We love this British comedy about the challenges faced by a young childless couple seeking to adopt.

It's written by Andy Wolton and stars Rafe Spall as Jason, Esther Smith as Nikki and Imelda Staunton as Penny.

Schmigadoon

Comedy series Schmigadoon! premiered on Apple TV Plus on 16 July 2021.

It is a six-episode musical comedy series in which two tourists, played by Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong, end up in a magical city where all the inhabitants live as if it were a musical from the 1940s. In order for them to leave the city, they must first find true love.

See

This is a sci-fi, post-apocalyptic drama set in a future where all humans are blind - except for a pair of twins.

It stars Jason Momoa (of Aquaman and Game of Thrones) alongside Alfre Woodard (12 Years a Slave, Captain America: Civil War) and comes from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and The Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence. 

The show includes scenes of a violent and sexual nature, despite claims that Apple was intent on making only family-friendly shows.

Will there be a second series? Yes:

The second series of See has been delayed until autumn 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but it will start to stream on 27 August 2021.

Servant

This psychological thriller, written by Tony Basgallop, is about a Philadelphia couple and a mysterious force that enters their home after a tragic event. 

Some of the ten half hour episodes are directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

Toby Kibbell, Lauren Abrose and Rupert Grint (Harry Potter) star in the show.

Will there be a second series? Yes:

The second series of Servant premiered on Apple TV+ on 15 January 2021. In fact there is a third series of Servant in the works - producer M. Night Shyamalan has said that the story needs five to six seasons to fully develop.

Snoopy in Space

Another one for the kids. Snoopy in Space sees Snoopy become a Nasa astronaut. There are 12 episodes.

There are more Snoopy show coming, including Charlie Brown Christmas.

Stillwater

Stillwater is an animated series based on the book series Zen Shorts by Jon J. Muth.

The children's series is about three siblings who are helped by an unusually wise panda who lives near their home. It arrived on Apple TV+ on 4 December.

Truth Be Told

This crime drama, based on a novel called "Are You Sleeping" by Kathleen Barber, sees a murder case reopened after a Serial-style podcast publicises it.

The series was written by Nichelle Tramble Spellman, who also wrote The Good Wife.

Reese Witherspoon's production company, Hello Sunshine, co-produced it for Apple and Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer stars as the protagonist, Josie.

Will there be a second series? Yes:

It was initially billed as a limited series, but the second season of Truth Be Told has will start streaming on 20 August 2021. The second series will follow a new case. This time Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer, who plays investigative journalist Poppy Parnell, will be joined by Kate Hudson staring as her childhood friend Micah Keith who has been embroiled in a real scandal.

Visible: Out on Television

This five part documentary demonstrates the way the LGBTQ movement shaped television. It combines archive footage and interviews.

Wolfwalkers

This animated film tells the story of a young hunter who comes to Ireland with her father to wipe out the last pack of evil wolves, but discovers that she can turn into a wolf at night. The film comes from Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon, who made critically acclaimed The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea and The Breadwinner.

Wolfwalkers is directed by Tomm Moore and we hear the voices of Honor Kneafsey, Sean Bean and Eva Whittaker.

Narrated by David Attenborough, this documentary highlights the way nature recovered during the COVID-19 lockdown.

It premiered on 16 April 2021.

This show is being made in conjunction with the BBC and will star Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter). It's an eight-part series that will be released in 2020.

The Afterparty

Comedy murder-mystery set at a high school reunion afterparty. Each episodes will feature a retelling of the same night from a different character's perspective.

Bastards

Apparently Apple is working on adapting a "gritty Israeli TV show” for the US market. Show-runners Howard Gordon and Warren Leight worked on 24, Homeland and Law and Order. The show centres on two elderly Vietnam vets - one of whom is played by Richard Gere.

Bride

Scarlett Johansson will produce and play the lead role in the new feature film Bride.

The film is about an ingenious entrepreneur who creates a woman to be the perfect wife, whereupon the woman goes against her creator and escapes into the world.

Christmas Carol

Apple's said to be preparing to stream A movie adaption of Dickens' A Christmas Carol starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds.

This was expected for December 2020 but late 2021 is now looking more likely. 

Custom of the Country

This adaptation of the Edith Wharton novel is about a midwestern girl who climbs the ladder of New York high society. Sofia Coppola is developing the series for Apple.

Earthsound 

Also from Offspring Films, Earthsound will be a series of 12 episodes where the latest sound technology will be used to give viewers a cinematic experience of life on our planet.

Echo 3

Based on Israeli show When Heroes Fly. It's about an American scientist who goes missing along the Colombia-Venezuela border. Her brother and her husband search for her and discover more than they expected.

El Gato Negro

Based on the comic books about El Gato Negro - The Black Cat.

Directed and produced by Robert Rodriguez, staring Diego Boneta.

Emancipation

Will Smith plays a runaway slave who has to evade capture as he makes his way to the North. 

The Essex Serpent

Starring Keira Knightly and based on the novel by Sarah Perry, Knightly plays recently-widowed Cora Seaborne who relocates to Essex where a mythical creature roams the marshes.

Keira Knightly is also executive producer.

Extrapolations

Series about climate change produced by Scott Z. Burns, the writer and director of documentary An Inconvenient Truth.

Finch

This is a new Tom Hanks movie about a man, a robot and a dog who have lived in an underground bunker for ten years.

Having survived the apocalypse the trio travels to the surface and starts a dangerous journey.

The film is directed by Miguel Sapochni, best known for directing several episodes of Game of Thrones.

Expect it to be a while before Finch appears on Apple TV+.

Foundation

Foundation will start to stream on Apple TV+ in September 2021. The series is an adaptation of the original literary foundation trilogy by Isaac Asimov ( who recently made a cameo appearance in Mythic Quest, also on Apple TV +).

Written in the 1950s, the books influenced George Lucas and Star Wars. It's based in a galaxy where humans live under the control of the Galactic Empire.

The project from Skydance Television will be produced by David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman as well as Skydance's David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross. According to David Goyer, the goal is for there to be eight seasons with ten hour-long episodes each. Goyer's credits include The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Ghost Rider, and more. He also co-wrote the upcoming Terminator reboot.

Friedman's credits include Avatar 2, the War of the Worlds remake and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

The show will star Lee Pace (Halt and Catch Fire, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Jared Harris (Chernobyl, Mad Men) according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Fraggle Rock

Following on from Fraggle Rock: Rock On! (details above) The Jim Henson Company is producing a full reboot of the classic kids show for Apple.

Harriet the Spy

Animated series based on kids book, staring Beanie Feldstein and Jane Lynch.

Hedy Lamarr

Series about the 1930s and 40s actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr staring Gal Gadot.

Hello Tomorrow!

Hello Tomorrow! from Amit Bhalla and Lucas Jansen is described as a retro-futuristic drama comedy. The first season consists of ten episodes and stars Billy Crudup (The Morning Show) as a talented salesman who sells apartments on the moon.

High Desert

High Desert is a comedy staring Patricia Arquette who plays Peggy, a woman who decides to change her life after her mother died and ends up with a new career as a private detective.

Arquette also acts as a producer together with Ben Stiller, High Desert being a result of a deal between Ben Stiller, Patricia Arquette and Apple for the duo to make TV series for Apple TV+.

Idris Elba spy film

Idris Elba is said to be set to star in a spy movie on Apple TV+. Apparently it will take place in Africa and have romantic elements.

In With The Devil

In With The Devil is about a young American football player who ends up in prison and gets the chance to get out if he can get a prison friend to admit to two murders. Ray Liotta (Goodfellas, Marriage Story), Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Rocketman) and Paul Walter Hauser (Richard Jewel, I, Tonya) will star. 

Apple Studios is producing the series directed by Michael R. Roskam. The series will consist of a total of six episodes. When it will premiere is currently unknown.

Killers of the Flower Moon

This movie is based on a book that tells the story of a series of murders of wealthy Osage Native Americans in Oklahoma in the 1920s after oil was found on their land.

It features Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro and comes from Martin Scorce's production company, with which Apple has signed a deal.

Leonardo DiCaprio's film company Appian Way Productions has also signed an agreement with Apple. Appian Way will be bringing Shining Girls, details below, to Apple TV+.

Kitbag

Apple is getting its hands on Ridley Scott's film about Napoleon staring Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor.

Kitbag won't be filmed until 2022, so expect it to be a while before the film can be shown on Apple TV Plus.

Lady in The Lake

Lady in The Lake is based on Laura Lippman's best-selling book of the same name and takes place in Baltimore in the 1960s.
Housewife Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman) decides to become an investigative journalist with the aim of solving a high-profile murder. At the same time, Cleo Sherwood (Lupita Nyong'o) is busy making the puzzle of life work because she is also fighting for the rights of African Americans.

Lady in The Lake is unlikely to premiere before 2022.

Losing Earth

A drama about politicians, scientists, and activists trying to stop climate change in the 1970s and '80s. The drama is based on a New York Times article that appeared in the summer of 2019.

Luck

Luck is a film from director Peggy Holmes about a girl who is unlucky enough to team up with a bunch of magical creatures in search of happiness, but not everything goes quite as planned. It's one of a number of animated movies from Skydance Animation, with whom Apple has signed a collaboration deal.

Also included in the deal are Spellbound, an animated musical about a young girl who tries to break a curse that has divided her kingdom into two parts (including songs from Oscar winner Alan Menken) and The Search for Wondla, a TV series about Eva Nine who lived in the underworld during her upbringing, but who is forced to the surface and enlist the help of a robot, an alien and a bear.

Skydance Animation is led by John Lasseter the creator of popular Pixar films such as Toy Story, A Bug's Life and Cars.

Malala Yousafzai content

Apple TV Plus has signed a multi-year agreement with activist and Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai's production company Extracurricular.

Extracurricular will produce content for Apple TV Plus in several genres, including documentaries as well as drama, children's programs and cartoons.

Malala Yousafzai became world famous after standing up to the Taliban in Pakistan and survived an assassination attempt. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 and graduated from Oxford University in 2020. Apple has previously supported her work through the charity Malala Fund.

Masters of the Air

This series will be about World War II bombers. It's said to be a follow-up to the hit HBO series Band of Brothers and is the first show to be produced by Apple's own studio, Masters.

Written by John Orloff (Band of Brothers). Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks will be executive producers.

My Glory Was I Had Such Friends

J.J. Abrams will also produce this drama series, based on Amy Silverstein's book about the group of women who supported her when she was waiting for a heart transplant. Staring Jennifer Garner (13 Going On 30, Alias).

James Bond: No Time to Die

Following COVID-19 related postponements of the release of the new James Bond movie, reports are suggesting that it could premiere on Apple TV+, instead of appearing in cinemas. 

Pachinko

Based on Min Jin Lee's book, Pachinko will tell the story of four generations of a Korean immigrant family, touching on the theme of forbidden love in Korea, Japan and America. Staring Soo Hugh.

Palmer

Justin Timberlake stars as former college footballer Eddie Palmer who returns home after doing time in prison and finds himself in charge of a young boy who has been abandoned.

Platonic

This new ten part comedy series staring Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen will be produced by Sony Pictures Television and released on Apple TV+.

It's about a couple of former best friends who slipped apart after their teenage years and are now trying to take up the relationship again as adults. As their rediscovered relationship takes up more and more of their lives, other parts of it begin to fall apart.

Prehistoric Planet

Natural history series will use CGI to follow the last days of the dinosaurs. It's being produced by BBC Studios' Natural History Unit.

Martin Scorsese

Apple has signed a multi-year agreement with Martin Scorce's production company. Sikelia Productions. The deal will include Killers of the Flower Moon, described above.

My Kind of Country

This sounds like a country version of one of the many music competitions.

Roar

Roar is based on Cecelia Ahern's book of the same name and consists of several feminist fables depicted through black humour.

Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Merritt Wever, Alison Brie and others will star and Roar is created by Liv Flahive and Carly Mensch who are best known for the Netflix series Glow.

Executive producers are Nicole Kidman, Per Saari, Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Allie Goss.

The series will consist of a total of eight half-hour episodes.

Severance

This workplace thriller focuses on Mark an employee at Lumen Industries (a company looking to take work-life balance to a new level). Mark (Adam Scott) has a dark past and is trying to put himself back together.

It's produced by Ben Stiller and Patricia Arquette will play Mark's boss. Ben Stiller and Patricia Arquette have signed an agreement to make TV series for Apple. 

Cult actor John Turturro (known from The Big Lebowski and O Brother, Where Art Thou?) will also appear in the series. As will Christopher Walken (Deer Hunter).

Shantaram

Based on Gregory David Roberts' 2003 novel, which is based on Roberts' life. The main character is a convict who flees an Australian prison for Bombay where he meets gangsters and criminals.

Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle, The International) will write and produce the series and the lead character will be payed by Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim).

Sharper

A con artist (Julianne Moore) lurks among the billionaire elites of Manhattan.

Moore will also produce.

Shining Girls

Shining Girls is a thriller series starring and produced by Elisabeth Moss. Moss plays a reporter who survives an assault and hunts down her attacker to find he is traveling through time to hunt women.

The Shrink Next Door

The eight-episode comedy series starring Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell about the bizarre relationship between a psychologist and a patient will start streaming on 12 November 2021. It's the first time that Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell have collaborated with each other in eight years. Then it was about the comedy film Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

Based on a popular podcast and inspired by true events this dark comedy stars Paul Rudd as Dr. Isaac Herschkopf who takes over the life of his patient Martin Markowitz (Will Ferrell).

The Sky is Everywhere

The Sky is Everywhere will be adapted from a young adult novel of the same name. The protagonist is the younger sister of a girl who died suddenly and the story details how she copes with the loss of her sister, and her developing relationships with the fiancé of her sister and another boy who moved to the town.

The main role is played by Grace Kaufman (The Last Ship) and in other leading roles are well-known actors such as Cherry Jones (Transparent) and Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother).

The Snoopy Show

The Snoopy Show premieres on Apple TV Plus on February 5. The TV series will be released as part of the 70th anniversary celebration of the Snoopy series strip, also known as Peanuts. The new TV series premieres on Apple TV Plus on February 5, 2021.

The Snoopy Show will be Apple's second collaboration with DHX Media and Peanuts Worldwide, which in 2019 released Snoopy in Space and Peanuts in Space: Secrets of Apollo 10, of which the latter won an Emmy for the company.

Snow Blind 

A high school student in a small Alaskan town posts a photo of his dad online and discovers that his family is in the Witness Protection Program. A man seeking revenge soon finds them.

Songwriter

Apple is said to be making a documentary about singer Ed Sheeran.

The documentary will be directed by Sheeran's cousin Murray Cummings.

Apparently the documentary will be released in the cinema as well as on Apple's own platforms (via Deadline).

Slow Horses

British MI-5 agency sends its failed spies to “Slough House” to do unimportant work. These ex-spies are referred to as Slow Horses, hence the title. 

Gary Oldman will star.

Sport

An article in the Daily Telegraph suggested that Apple is in discussions with mobile network EE (which is part of BT) regarding a deal that could see EE distributing Apple TV set-top boxes to its customers.

Should the deal go ahead, EE customers might be able to watch the BT Sport channel via the Apple TV.

Jon Stewert series

This will be a new current affairs program with comedian Jon Stewart, best known as the host of The Daily Show from 1999-2015. Each episode will be an hour long and will focus on a single topic.

The Sting

A Detective series with Robert Downey Jr is in the works. Its title isn't yet confirmed, but it's based on a Canadian newspaper article entitled "The Sting" and is about a detective who tries to solve an old case in the hope of becoming a hero.

It's produced by production company Team Downey, which is Downey Jr and his wife Susan.

Suspicion

Adapted from the award-winning Israeli TV series False Flag. Four civilians are falsely accused of a kidnapping the son of a prominent American businesswoman.

Swagger

Swagger is a drama series based on the life of Kevin Durant, a Basketball player. It will be written and directed by Reggie Rock Bythewood who wrote Notorious B.I.G. biopic Notorious.

An on-set injury for the lead actor may delay release.

Swan Song

Set in the future, this film explores how far someone will go, and how much they'll sacrifice, to make the people they love happy.

Time Bandits

Apple has bought an adaptation of Terry Gilliam's 1981 film Time Bandits. It's the story of six dwarves on the run from the Supreme Being. Gilliam will reportedly be a "non-writing executive partner", according to Deadline.

The two-part series will be co-written and directed by Taika Waititi - who bought us Thor: Ragnarok.

The Tragedy of Macbeth

Apple is getting its hands on a new Joel Coen's (The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, Fargo and O Brother, Where Art Thou?) film starring award-winning Hollywood stars Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand.

As the name suggests, the film is based on Shakespeare's Macbeth with Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand in the lead roles.

The Tragedy of Macbeth is apparently being filmed in black and white.
It will be shown in selected cinemas at the end of the year. A premiere date for Apple TV+ isn't yet known.

Vital Signs

This show was one of the first to be announced as an Apple project, with the Dr. Dre produced show said be a semi-autobiographical tale of Dre's life. Since 2016 when the show was first discussed there has been no more word, so perhaps it will never happen.

WeWork

Based on the history of WeWork and the podcast titled WeCrashed.

Where The Wild Things Are

Following a deal with The Maurice Sendak Foundation Apple will produce shows based on the author's work.

Wool

Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible and Dune) will star as mechanic Juliette in the new Apple-produced series Wool, based on a book series by Hugh Howey.

Apple has commissioned ten episodes of the new sci-fi series, which is based on a series of books by American author Hugh Howey. The series takes place in a distant future where humanity lives in large underground cities called silos.

The screen writer is Graham Yost (Band of Brothers) and it is to be directed by Morten Tyldum (Defending Jacob).

La La Land's Damien Chazelle has been signed up by Apple to write and direct a drama series for Apple.

House of Cards studio MRC is also involved with the show.

Untitled: 'You Think It, I'll Say It'

This Reese Witherspoon-produced show was supposed to star Kristen Wiig but Wiig has left the show and it is currently on hold. The comedy series is based on Curtis Sittenfeld's short story collection titled You Think It, I'll Say It.

Untitled: CIA undercover agent inspired drama

Brie Larson (Captain Marvell) will star as CIA agent Amaryllis Fox in a show based on Fox's real life experiences. As yet untitled, although a Fox's biography Life Undercover: Coming of Age in the CIA was released in October 2019 so it may use that name.

Back in June 2018 Apple was seeking to acquire animation rights to a movie from Academy Award-nominee Cartoon Saloon, according to Bloomberg.

The company was negotiating with Cartoon Saloon - the studio behind Secret of Kells, The Breadwinner and Song of the Sea - for rights to an animation that hadn't yet been made.

Apple would have to release the film to cinemas prior to making it available for download in order for it to qualify for an Academy Award.

Untitled: Sci-fi series

Simon Kinberg (X-Men) and David Weil (The Hunt) will be creating a 10-episode science fiction series.

Untitled Documentary Series

Said to tell the unbelievable true story of one of the largest scams in government history.
