The skyline in Indian cities has changed drastically over the past 20 years, owing to the construction boom in metro cities. Areas that were dominated by low-rise residential compounds are now dotted by the poshest skyscrapers, where some of the richest people in the country reside. According to a rough estimate, Mumbai alone accounts for more than 50 skyscrapers, followed by 12 in Kolkata. While a number of skyscrapers are currently under-construction, here is a list of the tallest buildings in India, which are already operational and habitable.

 

World One

City: Mumbai
Height: 280.2 metres

 

World One, developed by Lodha Group, the tallest building in Mumbai and in India, World One, is built on the 7.1-hectare site of the defunct Shrinivas Mill. The site also houses two other lower towers. The original idea was to build this tower at 442 metres tall but due to lack of permission from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the tower was redesigned to its current height, making it the tallest skyscraper in India.

 

World View

City: Mumbai
Height: 277.5 metres

World View is located in the same complex as World One. With 73 floors, this is the second-tallest tower in India. The construction started in 2015 and took five years for completion. Located in the Lower Parel area, this complex is a notable landmark in the area.

 

The Park

City: Mumbai
Height: 268 metres

 

Built over an area of 17.5 acres, The Park is a luxury residential project, developed by the Lodha Group. The project became a huge success as several celebrities bought properties here, including superstar Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who bought a 4BHK home here. The building has 78 floors and offers uber-luxury apartments only to select individuals.

 

Nathani Heights

City: Mumbai
Height: 262 metres

 

Nathani Heights is a residential skyscraper in Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi area. While the construction began in 2012, it took eight years to finish this tower. There are 72 floors in Nathani Heights, which is located in one of the busiest areas of Mumbai.

 

The Imperial I and The Imperial II

City: Mumbai
Height: 256 metres

 

Located in Mumbai’s Tardeo, The Imperial is built on erstwhile slum land. The project is home to several high-net worth individuals (HNIs). This was a first-of-its kind project where modern twin-towers were constructed for residential purposes in India. The project was designed by Hafeez Contractor and is one of his most notable works.

The 42

City: Kolkata
Height: 249 metres

 

This is east India’s tallest tower. Located in Kolkata, The 42 is a residential skyscraper, standing at Chowringhee, the central business district of the city. Construction of the 65-floor building was finished in 2019, after a delay of many years.

 

Ahuja Towers

City: Mumbai
Height: 248 metres

 

Ahuja Towers is another residential project in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi, known for housing several celebrities including the home of Rohit Sharma, the star of the Indian cricket team. The tower was completed in 2019 and has 55 floors. Built by Ahuja Constructions, this is one of the premium projects in the vicinity.

 

One Avighna Park

City: Mumbai
Height: 247 metres

 

This project is located in Lower Parel and has 61 floors. This is also a twin-tower structure developed by Avighna India ltd. The project was completed in 2019 and has 3, 4 and 5BHK apartments to offer only to select individuals. One Avighna Park has a pre-certified Platinum Rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

 

Crescent Bay

City: Mumbai
Height: 239 metres

 

Crescent Bay is an uber-premium project being developed by L&T Realty in collaboration with Omkar. This gated complex in Parel comprises six residential towers. Tower Six is the tallest and has 62 floors.
