Mumbai rains: IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall; Centre assures all possible help

MUMBAI: Heavy rains lashed the city and suburbs since early morning on Friday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of “heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places” in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar under an orange alert for Friday.
Mumbai will witness a high tide of 4.59 metres on Friday at 11:37 am. Another high tide of 4.01 metres is expected at 11:32 pm today. The maximum city will witness a low tide of 1.68 metres at 5:42 pm on July 23.
Road traffic has been disrupted in some parts of Kalyan East. The torrential rains that started on Wednesday night have caused floods in the area along the Waldhuni and Ulhas rivers.
The suburban trains on the Central Railway's main line as well as the Harbour line are running on schedule, an official said. Local train services on Western Railways' suburban services are also running normally. The Central Railway has rescheduled many long-distance trains including 02263 Pune-Nizamuddin Duronto Special at 2 pm on July 23.
Three people were killed and seven others injured after a ground plus one storey residential structure collapsed at Shivaji Nagar in Govandi on Friday morning at 4.58 am. "Seven fire engines and one rescue van of the fire brigade, and personnel of the police as well as other agencies reached the spot and launched a search and rescue operation," the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said. All others are undergoing treatment and their condition is stable, the official added.

Mumbai city has received 4.84 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending 8 am on Friday. The eastern suburbs recorded 21.75 mm and western suburbs recorded 16.02 mm of rainfall, as per BMC.
At least five people have died in the landslides that occurred in Maharashtra's Raigad district caused by incessant rains that battered the region over the last 24 hours, Nidhi Chaudhary, District Collector, Raigad informed on Friday.
Meanwhile, rescue efforts are underway in Chiplun as houses are submerged in flood waters in the coastal town after incessant showers.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray of all possible support from the Centre to mitigate the situation arising in various parts of the state due to heavy rainfall and floods.
