
A woman, who duped a couple of Rs 27.5 lakh by pretending to be a senior government officer, has been arrested by Pune City Police.
Anita Bhise, 47, has lodged the first information report in this case at the Yerwada police station.
Police said the accused and complainant are residents of the same area and they have known each other for the last few months. The accused allegedly claimed to be a senior government officer and then assured to help the complainant and her husband purchase a piece of land under a Maharashtra government scheme.
Police said between October 2020 and July 2021, the accused allegedly took Rs 27.5 lakh from the couple. She also allegedly gave them a fake receipt regarding payment of this money to the Treasury department office. She gave them a forged letter about land purchase, which carried fake signatures of government officers.
Police have booked the accused under Section 420 of IPC and sections of the Information Technology Act.
