Instead of tormenting fourth pillar of democracy, govt. should support them: Subodh

Patna, Jul 22 ( UNI) Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay

today alleged that the Modi government at the centre was tormenting the fourth pillar of

democracy with the sole sim to silence the media and hide the "naked truth".

Through his tweet on so kal media, Mr Sahay said that If the government truly believes in transparency, it should support the Media house discharging its rightful duty. Condemning the

IT raid on Dainik Bhaskar, he termed it as an onslaught on the media house in strongest

terms.

Mr Sahay said when panic sets in, the Modi Government bares it's teeth and sheds rapidly

the facade of democratic norms and resorts to meanest acts of browbeating and tormenting

the fourth pillar of democracy.

The Congress leader said that raising legitimate concerns becomes a crime as the

oppressive instruments of brute state power are let loose, akin to the rule of Hitler, to

somehow silence the media and hide the "naked truth".

He said that survival of democracy in such situation was impossible.

According to him instead of supporting media house discharging its rightful duty, the

government itself has come in the dock by getting the IT raids conducted in all the offices

of Dainik Bhaskar across the country. Their moral bankruptcy and desperation have led

to this kind of use of state power, he added.

If any individual or organization is involved in this, it is a betrayal of Indian democratic values

that must be condemned. There should be an investigation into why all of this happened

between 2017 and 2019, when Parliamentary elections were due for 2019, he questioned and

appealed to the cross section of the society to condemn the onslaught on Dainik Bhaskar .
