Srinagar, Jul 22 (UNI) To commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas, Army continues to organise motorcycle rallies in Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh.
A defence ministry spokesman Col Emron Musavi said Thursday in Srinagar, ”Karakoram to Kargil Homage Rally is being conducted on Thursday to pay our tributes to the indomitable spirit of the Indian Army on occasion of 22nd Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The motorcycles rallies which were flagged off for Doulat Beg Oldie on July 19, 2021 by General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps completed its first phase from Leh to Daulat Beg Oldie and returned to Leh Wednesday.
The team braved the harsh environment and challenges of terrain as a salute to the bravehearts of Kargil war.
The second phase of the rally commences Thursday from Leh to Drass and will be led by Lieutenant General PGK Menon, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps.
The expedition will converge with the Dhruva Kargil Ride at Drass on Friday to commemorate the Kargil Vijay Diwas.
He said yesterday 15 Army Personnel took part in the motor rally. They moved from KM-120 to Leh via Shyok, Agham and Khardung La on July 21, 2021 and was seen off by Commander, Patiala Brigade.
This arduous journey through extremely rugged terrain included crossing Khardung La, the highest motorable pass in the world. The motorcycle rally arrived at Leh after braving the inclement weather and was cheered on by forward deployed soldiers and local citizens enroute in the afternoon on Wednesday.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is being celebrated on July 26 every year as on this day last Pakistani intruder was pushed back in Kargil and troops announced successful culmination of operation Vijay. Pak intruders had occupied all heights in Drass and Kargil sectors in Ladakh region in 1999 and it took several months for Indian troops to reoccupy all heights.
