SCORECARD | Ireland v Proteas, 2nd T20 International
South Africa went into the encounter with three changes as Wiaan Mulder, Bjorn Fortuin and Beuran Hendricks replacing George Linde, Kagiso Rabada and Lizaad Williams who were rested.
Batting first, they got off to the worse possible start as Ireland part-time spinner Paul Stirling removed Temba Bavuma (0) and Janneman Malan (0) in the first over to leave the Proteas reeling.
Aiden Markram (8) soon followed, bowled by Mark Adair and when Quinton de Kock (27) was next out, LBW to Simi Singh, the Proteas were in deep trouble at 38/4.
David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen went about rebuilding the innings, putting on 20 for the fifth wicket before Van Der Dussen was caught behind for six leaving the Proteas on 58/5 in the 10th over.
Miller then found a willing partner in Wiaan Mulder and the pair put on 58 before Mulder was out for 36 off 25 balls in the 17th over.
Fortuin (5) didn't last long but by now, Miller had brought up his 50.
He ended on 75 not out off 44 balls after smashing four sixes from the final over to leave the Proteas on 159/7, which at one point had seemed very far away.
Ireland's innings started on the wrong foot, just like the Proteas' had when Fortuin removed Kevin O'Brien for a duck.
Captain Andrew Balbirnie (6) soon followed as he skied a Hendriks deliver to De Kock to leave Ireland on 23-2 in the fifth over.
Stirling and George Dockrell took the score to 46 before Shamsi accounted for the dangerous Stirling, caught in the deep by Miller for 19.
Bavuma turned to spin at the other end too and it paid dividends straight away as Harry Tector fell to the part-time off-spin of Markram when he was brilliant caught Fortuin for 1 to leave Ireland on 52/4 after nine overs.
Shamsi then removed Dockrell (20) and Shane Getkate (24) as he continued to weave his magic over Ireland as he ended with 3/14 in his four overs.
Fortuin chipped in with the wicket of Lorcan Tucker (12) and Simi Singh (1) to end on 3/16 in four overs as Ireland were floundering on 93-8 with 30 balls left in their innings.
Hendricks brought their innings to the brink when he had Craig Young caught by Mulder for a duck.
Lungi Ngidi then ended the game when he bowled Josh Little (9) as Ireland ended on 117 all out.
The teams meet again on Saturday for the final match in the series.
