Naveen Patnaik on Thursday
virtually inaugurated a
tea packaging unit of
Tata Consumer Products Limited at
Gopalpur industrial park in Ganjam.
The plant has been commissioned in a span of 18 months with an investment of Rs 100 crore and create employment opportunities for more than 900 persons.
The plant with present production capacity of 15 million kgs will be developed as the largest tea packaging plant in the country as the company has planned to enhance its capacity to 50 million kgs in future. It is one of the most modern Unit with all the state-of-the-art technologies, said an official statement.
The unit will cater to the needs of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Central India. It is operated by Amalgamated Plantations Private Limited, an associate of Tata consumers and the second largest tea producer in India.
The chief minister appreciated the role of
Tata group in Odisha and said that it has been playing a vital role in the industrial development of the state. He also appreciated Tata Groups’ support to the state government to handle the Covid-19 pandemic.
“They (Tatas) have also come forward in catalysing social development through partnering with the state government in education, health and skill development initiatives,” said Naveen.
Naveen said Odisha has continued to remain at the forefront of industrial development in India. “The policy framework and facilitation mechanism of Odisha has been successful in mobilizing investments in diverse sectors such as petrochemical, food processing, apparel and garment. The ongoing diversification of industrial base will further improve the employment opportunities in Odisha,” he added.
State industries minister Dibya Shankar Mishra outlined the state’s progress in industrial development in the past two decades. He said the state has provided a stable platform for industries for healthy growth in Odisha.
Tata Steel managing director T V Narendran said that Tata Steel has invested over Rs 60,000 crore in Odisha in the past five years while Tata Steel has also invested Rs 500 crore for infrastructure development at Gopalpur special economic zone spanning over 2970 acres on the eastern coast.
