Konkan Railway has said that nine trains were diverted, stopped or cancelled before their destination due to the flood situation in Chiplun
Train services on the Konkan Rail route in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra were suspended on Thursday morning following heavy rains and a spate of a river in the region.
Around 6000 passengers are stuck in trains on the Konkan rail route. Konkan Railway has said that nine trains were diverted, stopped or cancelled before their destination due to the flood situation in Chiplun. Out of these, Dadar-Sawantwadi special train has been diverted towards Chiplun station and CSMT-Madgaon Janshatabdi special train towards Khed station.
Due to heavy rains river Kajli and Muchkundi are overflowing in the Ratnagiri city. Meanwhile, the movement of vehicles on the British-era bridge on the Mumbai-Goa highway has also been stopped from 5 am today. The Happy Dhaba, which is present in Lanja city, has also been submerged in water due to water logging due to heavy rains. Not only this, but water has also reached the foot over bridge of Lanja city for the first time.
There is a flood situation in Vashishti and Shiv rivers in Chiplun; water has reached the residential areas. The Mumbai-Goa and Chiplun-Karad highways have been completely closed. The Konkan Railway is a 756 km long rail route from Roha near Mumbai to Thokur near Mangaluru.
