Airbnb suspends host for not letting vaccinated couple book a room

In a bizarre turn of events, a couple in Australia's Victoria was rejected by an Airbnb hots because they were fully vaccinated against the Covid-19 times. The host refused to provide a room to the couple because they had taken both shots of the Covid-19 vaccine. At a time, when getting both the vaccine is of prime importance to curb the spread of the Coronavirus, this couple had to bear the brunt for getting the shots. Airbnb has suspended the host for refusing them accommodation.

Melbourne-based Steve Carey, tried to book a homestay in Victoria with his partner, when he was asked whether he is vaccinated or not by the Super host. Carey told him that both he and his partners were fully vaccinated against the virus. Instead of getting a warm welcome from the host, they were denied a room because the host believed that the vaccine could cause people to transmit the virus to the unvaccinated. The claim is absolutely baseless and was being circulated on the Internet by a bunch of naysayers. However, the host fell for the claim and rejected their booking because they were vaccinated.

"I'm not accepting any vaccinated people due to reports of adverse reactions," the host was quoted by the Guardian as saying. "It's also transmitting to unvaccinated people and causing them to become unwell. I'm afraid it's way too experimental at this stage and I need to protect my other guests. I'm so sorry for any inconvenience." The claim is untrue as the Cover vaccines do not have any live element.

Soon after his booking was rejected for this strange reason, Carey reported the issue to Airbnb, but the company said that it cannot prevent hosts from refusing booking to people. However, upon investigating the matter, the host was suspended by Airbnb.

"Having completed our investigation of this matter, we have suspended the listing in question. It's important that everyone closely follows official health guidance from local authorities as we all continue to do our part to combat Covid-19," Airbnb's head of public policy for Australia, Derek Nolan told the Guardian.
