    Dow Jones rises on upbeat earnings and recovery optimism

    The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 252.26 points, or 0.73%, at the open to 34,764.25.

    Wall Street's main indexes opened higher on Wednesday as upbeat quarterly results from companies including Johnson & Johnson and Coca-Cola reignited optimism about the health of corporate America.

    The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 252.26 points, or 0.73%, at the open to 34,764.25. The S&P 500 rose 21.1 points, or 0.50%, at the open to 4,344.74, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 23.9 points, or 0.16%, to 14,521.93 at the opening bell.
