J&K govt to issue domicile certificate to spouse of native woman

New Delhi, Jul 21 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced to issue a domicile certificate to the non-state subject husband of a native woman.
The UT government added this clause in the Jammu and Kashmir grant of domicile certificate (procedure) rules, 2020 on Tuesday. The new provision authorizes a Tehsildar as a competent authority for issuing the domicile certificate.
The spouse is eligible to get the certificate upon showing the domicile certificate of his/her spouse and a valid marriage proof.
Earlier, men who married permanent resident women of Jammu and Kashmir were denied the rights of a state subject.
J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina lauded the UT government's decision to issue domicile to spouse of domicile holder women.
"I would like to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for this historic decision," he said while addressing a press conference in Jammu.
