GURUGRAM: The manager of a cargo company whose workers stayed in the building that collapsed on Sunday evening was arrested on Tuesday.
On Monday, the owner of the building,
Ravinder Kataria, and the cargo firm manager,
Krishan Kaushik, had been booked under sections 288 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings), 304 (II) (culpable homicide) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC at Farrukhnagar police station. “The manager has been arrested and sent to jail,” Gurgaon police spokesman Subhash Bolen said.
Three people were killed and one person was injured when the three-storey building in Pataudi collapsed on Sunday evening.
On Tuesday, the district administration formed a three-member committee to probe the incident. The team collected samples from the site and those have been sent to the state public works department (PWD) laboratory for examination.
Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each from the CM Relief Fund for the families of the three deceased men. The injured person will get Rs 1 lakh, officials have said.
The sub-divisional officer of Pataudi, the junior engineer of PWD (bridge and roads), Farrukhnagar, and the sub-divisional officer of panchayati raj are in the probe panel. They will check the design, strength and stability of the building, material used for its construction and its maintenance among other things. The committee will submit a report on the basis of which further action will be taken, officials have said.
Sub-divisional magistrate of Pataudi, Pradeep Kumar, said the deputy commissioner has ordered a magisterial probe. “We have formed a three-member committee to investigate the case. The team has started its work and samples have been collected from the site for tests,” he said.
Pataudi MLA Satya Prakash Jarawta said: “We had updated the CM about the incident and he has announced a compensation.”
