Important New Feature Coming to 2022 Toyota 4Runner
One of the most asked about features is finally coming to Toyota 4Runner for the 2022 model year.
This is not a year for a 4Runner redesign, and it is also not going to be a year when Toyota 4Runner is refreshed.
However, there will be a new feature that 4Runner fans have been asking about for years.
Call me excited.
Toyota 4Runner and Blind Spot Monitor
I reported last month that blind spot monitor will be available on the all-new 2022 4Runner TRD Sport. Buyers can get this feature, along with rear cross-traffic alert, with the optional Technology Package.
Technology Package is new for 4Runner this coming model year.
Now, information is being reported this week from multiple online sources that blind spot monitor will also be offered standard on several 4Runner trim levels.
Blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert are a package deal and go with each other here.
How to Get 4Runner Blind Spot Monitor
Look for blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert as standard equipment on four different 2022 4Runner grades.
Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium, 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium, 4Runner Limited and 4Runner TRD Pro are the lucky trim levels.
It reminds me of Toy Story where the crane game prize creature says, “I have been chosen.”
Technology Package on 4Runner TRD Sport gets you blind spot monitor also.
No word on if other grades like SR5 and TRD Off-Road will offer these upgrades optionally or not.
2022 Toyota 4Runner Release Date
Official 4Runner retail sale time frame is not available yet.
What I can guess is that we should start seeing 2022 Toyota 4Runner SUVs at dealerships across the country sometime in later September into October.

The ongoing vehicle shortage could impact dealer supplies as well. Not many people have any real idea when this critical situation will alleviate, and when buyers will begin seeing more inventory “on the lots.”
This is a challenging time for consumers, for dealerships, and for manufacturers. I personally cannot wait until vehicle supplies begin increasing again.
Time for Your Toyota 4Runner Comments
Hey 4Runner fans, these questions go out to you. I would love your opinions, as I can use this feedback for future stories.
Do you think the addition of blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert will impact your willingness to buy a new Toyota 4Runner?
Are there any other features you feel 4Runner should have, or that you would like 4Runner to have (at least as an option)?
When Toyota 4Runner finally gets redesigned, what engine and transmission do you think would be optimal?
