CHANDIGARH: Haryana police will soon begin filing chargesheets in cases of violence during farm protests against the three central agriculture laws. This was part of the agenda of the meeting chaired by Haryana DGP Manoj
Yadava with senior officers on Tuesday.
Apart from the murder case registered against
Haryana farm leader Gurnam Singh Charuni and other farmers at Naraingarh in Ambala, cases pertaining to attempt to murder, violence and interrupting government servants from discharging their duties have also been filed against the agriculturists.
Yadava, who ruled out any kind of leniency in cases registered against farmers, said instructions have been issued to expedite the process of filing of chargesheets against the accused in all the cases.
The investigating officers will soon start filing the chargesheets as the investigations in these cases are at an advanced stage,” he added.
According to information, there are over 200 such cases registered against farmers so far.
Besides this, police personnel have been instructed to show zero tolerance towards farmers disrupting scheduled events and visits of ministers and MLAs of the ruling
BJP-JJP alliance partners.
Yadava also asked the cops to remain extremely alert ahead of Independence Day on account of the security threat posed by anti-national forces as well as the anticipated sabotage of Independence Day programmes by agitating farmers.
"Lessons have been learnt from incidents at Chandigarh and Sirsa. Now, cops down the line have been told to be tough with law-breakers and those resorting to violence. We shall not touch anybody protesting peacefully,” said
DGP Yadava.
The efficiency of the
Emergency Response System of dial 112 project and crime deterrence measures were also discussed in the meeting.
