Chemicals, firearms seized NSW man charged
A man has been charged after the bomb squad raided properties southwest of Sydney, seizing firearms as well as chemicals that could be used to make explosives.
Police from Camden Police Area Command began investigating earlier this month after receiving a tip off from the Australian Federal Police.
They raided a unit and another home at Picton on Tuesday and arrested a 54-year-old man.
Police found chemicals at both locations, which were secured with help from the Drug and Firearms Squad's Chemical Operations Team, Rescue and Bomb Disposal Squad and NSW Fire and Rescue Hazmat.
Police also seized equipment including a rotary evaporator, heating mantle and glassware, as well as liquids and acids including fuming nitric acid.
Rescue and Bomb Disposal Squad officers removed detonator charger casings and a firearm.
The man was taken to Narellan Police Station and charged with possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm and possession supply or making explosives for unlawful purposes.
He was refused bail to appear at Moss Vale Local Court on Wednesday.
