Ludhiana: Schools for classes X, XI, and XII in Punjab is set to open from July 26. Taking note of the decline in Covid positivity to 0.3 %, with Reproduction number (R) at 0.75 for Punjab (lower than the national average), chief minister, on Tuesday said schools will be allowed to open for classes X to XII, but only those who are fully vaccinated, shall be allowed to be physically present. Physical presence of the students shall be purely at the consent of the parents and the option of virtual classes shall be continued. An undertaking to this effect shall be submitted to the deputy commissioners concerned, he said.
If the situation remains under control, remaining classes shall similarly be allowed to open from August 2.
Satwant Kaur Bhullar, principal of DAV Pakhowal Road said, “It is a good move by the state government. Teachers, students, and parents are happy as the school was dry without school students. Teaching in person is different than online teaching. School will send consent forms to parents and I would advise students to follow Covid guidelines.”
“There may be doubt and fear among parents but we will talk to them as more than 98% staff is fully vaccinated. It would take time to build confidence among students but they will cover up soon if they will be regular,” said Bhullar. .
Talking to TOI, coordinator at Jesus’ Sacred Heart School, Shweta Dhunna said, “It is a wise decision as most of the students, parents are complaining about online studies. In fact, schools should be open for preprimary and primary students who are facing issues in online studies. After sending consent forms, we will make sure that everyone follows protocols.”
