Dramatic body camera video captures the moment cops opened fire on two Bronx gunmen who had just fatally shot a rival — in an incident where one round struck an innocent bystander on the street.
The mayhem unfolded around 6:20 p.m. April 3 at Findlay Avenue and East 166th Street, where Kejuan Dehaney and Hassan Maxwell, both 22, allegedly chased down Gabriel Casso and sprayed bullets at him.
The footage, released Monday evening, shows that Lt. Olivier Pasquet and Police Officers Michael Meneses and Zachary Lavender were nearby conducting a traffic stop when a shot suddenly rang out.
“Oh s–t,” someone can be heard saying.
Pasquet and Meneses took off running, yelling, “Get down, get down!” before a flurry of gunfire can be heard.
The officers, both assigned to the 44th Precinct, discharged a combined total of 15 shots from their service firearms, cops said.
Dehaney was shot twice, once in his arm and once in his hand.
During the gunfire, a stray bullet struck an innocent 66-year-old bystander in the arm, police said. It was unclear if he was struck by the suspects or the officers.
Dehaney and Maxwell fled on foot toward College Avenue.
Officers Travis Mustapher and Kyle Ferrara spotted the pair on College Avenue about a block away and stopped them.
“Get on the ground now!” one of the officers can be heard yelling.
Both officers had their weapons outstretched as the men lay on the ground.
Dehaney and Maxwell were arrested and charged with one count each of murder in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a firearm, cops said.
Maxwell was taken directly to the 44th Precinct for arrest processing, cops said. Dehaney and the innocent bystander were taken to Lincoln Medical Center for treatment.
Casso, also 22, succumbed to his injuries at the same hospital.
The shooting remains under investigation.
