A senior Congress leader who does not want to be named told ET, “ Some more Congress leaders will make an exit and will join BJP.”

Das will arrive in Manipur on Wednesday. Manipur is going to assembly polls next year.
With reports of Congress President Govindas Konthoujam stepping down the post and along with several other MLAs likely to join BJP, AICC has rushed Bhaktacharan Das to Manipur.

Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, Congress spokesperson in Manipur tweeted, “As per the direction of Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi ji, AICC in-charge of Manipur, Shri @BHAKTACHARANDAS ji, former Union Minister, will arrive in Imphal by 9 am tomorrow to meet with senior leaders and other leaders of the party in Manipur. The Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, is well aware of the developments in the state, and she is deeply concerned for the future of better Manipur”.

Konthoujam is six time MLA from Bishnupur constituency besides being chief whip of the party. Congress however is refraining from confirming this development.

Congress has 17 members in the Manipur Assembly. A senior Congress leader who does not want to be named told ET, “ Some more Congress leaders will make an exit and will join BJP.”
