NTPC REL - a subsidiary of NTPC - has
signed a MoU with the UT of Ladakh to set up India’s first green Hydrogen
Mobility project. Officials like Lt. Governor R K Mathur, senior dignitaries of
government, NTPC, and public representatives, were presented when the MoU was
signed. This initiative will enable NTPC to help Ladakh develop an economy that
is carbon-free and is based on renewable sources and green hydrogen. LG
expressed that he wants Ladakh to become a hydrogen state and Prime Minister
has a vision of a ‘carbon neutral’ Ladakh.
NTPC is planning to set up a solar plant
and a green hydrogen generation unit in Leh towards the end of this year and is
also planning to ply 5 hydrogen buses in the region. All this will make Leh the
first city in India to implement a green hydrogen-based mobility project.
As per the reports, NTPC wants a green
portfolio and this green hydrogen project is a step in achieving the carbon
footprint. In the sectors related to energy, chemical, fertilizer, steel, and
mobility, NTPC has been promoting the usage of green hydrogen-based solutions. It has also started
India’s largest floating solar project of 10MW at Vishakhapatnam.
