A part of the balcony of one of the flats collapsed today
THANE: A part of a vacant building collapsed in Ulhasnagar city of Maharashtra's Thane district on Monday as extremely heavy rains continued to pound the city.
The building, named Ambika Sagar Apartment, is located in camp 3 of Ulhasnagar, near Powai Chowk.
Due to incessant rainfall, the balcony of one of the flats of the five-storeyed building collapsed on Monday morning, locals informed.
However, no injuries or casualties have been reported in the incident.
This was the fourth such incident reported in Ulhasnagar in the last three months.

Incidentally, in July 2019, a slab of the same building had come crashing down, resulting in the death of a three-year-old child. Soon after the incident, the building was declared to be 'dangerous' by the local civic body and residents were asked to vacate the structure.
However, even after two years since the mishap, no action has been taken on the dilapidated building. It still stands in a hazardous condition, posing a threat to the lives and property of people living nearby.
A few days ago, three people were injured after the slab of a flat collapsed in Ulhasnagar-1. In a similar incident in May 2021, seven people had lost their lives.
In the past few weeks, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) has issued notices to dozens of structures across the city, marking them as dangerous, and have asked the residents to get a structural audit done and submit the report to the authorities.
