JDA has to remove 650 structures from the remaining stretch of the proposed corridor
JAIPUR: The Jhotwara elevated road project, proposed to ease the vehicular movement between Panipech and Kalwar Road area, has hit a roadblock.
For the 2,450-metre long elevated road project, work in the 1,250-metre stretch cannot be initiated due to land availability. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has to remove 650 structures from the remaining stretch of proposed corridor.
An official said, “Till June, approximately Rs 60 crore has been spent on the project. The work of the entire project can be completed by December 2022.”
The width of the threelane elevated road will be 11.50 metre. Out of 529 pilings, 358 have been completed. Similarly, 53 pier caps have been placed, out of total 56.
“Now, the work can only be started after the structures are removed,” said official.
After affected owners of Jhotwara elevated road project have given consent to shift, the JDA has started the work on identified land.
“Work to construct the road in the land is ongoing. Electricity, water and sewerage lines will be laid soon. Following this, structures falling on the route alignment will be removed.”
In the budget of 2016-2017, the BJP government had announced the construction of elevated road to give relief to commuters travelling to Phalna’s Jhotwara.
The road is proposed to ease traffic in one of the most congested areas of the city and provide relief to more than 6 lakh residents. The project is crucial as the narrow flyover has become a major bottleneck. As no land is available on either side, the JDA is left with no option but to construct an elevated road.
For the project, the JDA has also taken loan of Rs 119 crore.
“The project was expected to be completed within 30 months of commencement. In July 2018, the then chief minister Vasundhra Raje laid the foundation stone. If project is not completed on time, the installments of an incomplete project might pinch JDA,” said a source.
