Vijayawada, Jul 19 (UNI) The police foiled the ‘Chalo Chief Minister's home’ programme of the unemployed youth to lay siege to Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy's residence in protest against the Andhra Pradesh government’s indifference in filling up vacant posts and demanding to release new job calendar on Monday.
Various student organisations gave 'Chalo Chief Minister’s home' call to register their protest at the residence of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, demanding the release of a new job calendar.
The Left parties and Telugu Desam party extended their solidarity to the agitating students.
Large number of students holding party flags and raising slogans tried to rush towards Tadepalli area where the Chief Minister ‘s residence is located to stage a dharna but the police prevented them at various places.
As the Chief Minister was going to the Polavaram project to conduct an aerial survey today, the police blocked all the roads leading Mr Reddy's residence at Tadepalli in Guntur district near here.
The activists holding their party flags squatted on the road at various places raising slogans against the Chief Minister and the government. Tension prevailed at old toll gate area at Tadepalli as some activists tried to rush towards his residence but the police prevented them.
Tension also prevailed for some time at Nallapadu village in Guntur district as TDP leader A Rajendra Prasad picked an argument with the police for arresting the leaders of TSSF, youth federation and other activists of student unions. The arrested activists were whisked away to the Nallapadu police station.
Large number of activists rushed to the police station and staged a dharna in protest against the 'highhanded' behaviour of the police.
Meanwhile, CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna condemned the arrest of activists while participating in 'Chalo Chief Minister's home' programme.
In a statement here, he said that the government had not released job calendar for two years and demanded the release of all arrested leaders and activists.
TDP National General Secretary and MLC Nara Lokesh slammed the Jagan Mohan Reddy headed Government for trying to 'ruthlessly suppress' the justifiable agitation of the unemployed youth who were expressing their protests for a new job calendar under the banner of 'AP Ugoya Porata Samithi'.
Mr. Lokesh condemned the arrests of the youth leaders even though they were going in a democratic and peaceful manner to take part in the agitation.
