A Springfield Township man who faced multiple counts of rape involving two woman has been acquitted of all charges involving one woman. And charges involving the second woman were dismissed.

Jamal Richardson, 28, chose to have a bench trial in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, which meant a judge decided the case, not a jury.

On July 9, Judge Melba Marsh found Richardson not guilty of rape and kidnapping charges, court records show.

In the case that ended in acquittal, Richardson was accused of forcing a woman to engage in sexual acts against her will, in the hallway of a Walnut Hills apartment building. The woman testified that she was a prostitute, according to Richardson’s attorney, Clyde Bennett II.

“The cross-examination of the alleged victim showed that she was not forced or compelled to have sex – it was consensual sex,” Bennett said.

Bennett said the incident involving the second woman also was consensual. Those charges were dropped by prosecutors in November 2020, court records show, after she didn’t show up to testify at a scheduled trial.

Richardson was indicted in February 2020 and jailed for five months until his bond was reduced, records show, and he was able to post 10 percent of a $50,000 bond.
