Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has thanked the club's loyal fans for their support after Amakhosi's disappointing 3-0 defeat to Al Ahly in the Champions League final.

The Soweto giants defied all expectations as they claimed a place in the final of Africa's premier club competition after a long and challenging campaign.

However, Chiefs finally found their match in Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly, with the Egyptian outfit scoring three late goals to claim an impressive 10th CAF Champions League title.

And, with Akpeyi playing the full 90 minutes on Saturday night, he has come in for some criticism for his performance between the sticks.

Taking to Instagram, Akpeyi posted the following message: "Every champion has once lost a fight (sadly so), but they've never lost their dream no matter the opinion about them, nature does conform to them at the right time.

"To everyone who has been standing with them through thick and thin, I salute your courage, when the limits are broken, all the joy that is assumed to be lost you will receive them in one package.

"I'm grateful to have come this far."
