Eurofins Textile Testing Spain, a major player in analytical testing worldwide, and Tailorlux, a Germany-based full-service provider for product authenticity, have signed an agreement to explore business synergies in the textile and apparel market. Tailorlux has developed a system that can automatically verify the recycled content of a textile.

The online verification and machine-to-machine elements pave the way for innovative solutions for the textile world. In times of ambitious climate targets, carbon footprint and scarce resources, digital verification of material is becoming a key element.

A special know-how of Tailorlux is fibre traceability and quantification. With this cooperation, the technology will get an ecological footprint. Tailorlux customers can soon hand in their samples to one of the 18 Eurofins laboratories worldwide, the companies said in a joint media release.

A first inspection kit has been handed over to Enrique Rivas, general manager of Eurofins Textile Testing Spain.

A special focus of the cooperation between Eurofins and Tailorlux is to digitise and track cotton by using an enriched viscose fibre. A first contract with Kipas has been signed to enable digital transaction certifications for over 3,000 tons of recycled yarn. Retailers and brands will be able to procure recycled products with an ensured ratio of recycled content based on production data.

A typical application is the traceability of manmade fibres. A manufacturer can add the inorganic markers via a masterbatch of a liquid colour or even in combination with titanium dioxide. The customer can now use a handheld device, a device in a production line or a mobile device for the quantification of content in a textile.

Another use case is the protection of product and material authenticity. Tailorlux has a large experience in securing shoes via sewing threads, varnish or polymer carriers to give them a unique spectral code that can be read in the field or tested in a Eurofins laboratory.

Eurofins will get access to the Tailorlux algorithm to quantify the recycled content in textiles to audit the technology and test its reliability. Through further data acquisition, the composition of textiles can thus be determined with increasing precision and their ecological footprint be calculated.

Tailorlux provides authentication and traceability solutions with covert markings that are inseparably linked to the product. Through its interdisciplinary expertise in light emitting materials and detection, Tailorlux contributes to making transparency, authenticity and traceability a reality in value chains of various industries. For textile applications Tailorlux provides a polymer or viscose marker fibre that can be traced throughout the supply chain.

Eurofins is a leading international laboratory group with annual sales of €4.56 billion. Eurofins is active in more than 50 countries with over 50,000 employees and more than 900 independent companies.
