PUNE: The catchment areas of the dams that supply water to Pune have recorded fairly good rainfall in the last couple of days. The Panshet and Vasaragaon dams received over 60mm rainfall till Monday morning while the Temghar dam recorded 50mm rains in 24 hours ended on Monday morning.
The Temghar dam has received more than 770mm rainfall since June 1, while Panshet and Varasgaon have recorded around 530mm and 550mm rainfall respectively, according to data released by the state irrigation department.
All three dams receive more than 2000mm of rainfall in the monsoon season. Water levels in dams are likely to go up with the increase in rainfall activity in catchments.
The officials in the irrigation department said that they are monitoring the water levels in all the dams on a daily basis. The water stock in Panshet increased to 42 per cent on Monday while stock in Varasgan reached 31%. Storage in Temghar was at 21 per cent of its total capacity of 3.15 TMC, officials said.
The Panshet has a maximum live water storage capacity of 10.65 TMC while Varasgaon's livestock capacity is 12.82 TMC. The irrigation department said that both dams also release water for the crops in rural parts of the Pune district.
