CESL to supply 25,000 electric two-wheelers to AP Government

Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a company under the Ministry of Power, has signed an agreement with the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) to provide 25,000 electric two-wheelers to the state. The EVs will be provided to the state government employees.

CESL and NREDCAP will aggregate demand, deploy EVs and build charging infrastructure. They will also devise a payment security mechanism.

The electric two-wheelers will be provided on a monthly lease. It will come with comprehensive insurance that will be deducted as EMI from the volunteering government employee’s account. The EVs will also come with a standard warranty of three years against any manufacturing defect. The batteries will also carry a warranty for three years or 60,000 km, whichever is earlier.

Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, Energy Minister of Andhra Pradesh said that the electric two-wheelers for the government employees will boost energy and financial savings, which will encourage more people to also make a shift to EVs.

Srikant Nagulapalli, Chairman, NREDCAP said that it will encourage all government employees including cooperative societies, public sector undertakings and others to opt EVs.

Mahua Acharya, MD & CEO, CESL said that Andhra Pradesh’s decision to go electric will accelerate e-mobility adoption in India and provide a blueprint for other states as well.
