Teen captured after Lexington jail escape. He faces charges in deaths of his mom, sister
Officers on Monday captured a teen who had escaped a juvenile detention center while facing charges in the deaths of his mother and 12-year-old sister, according to Kentucky State Police.
Luke Craig, 16, was returned to Department of Juvenile Justice custody and the state-run Fayette County Regional Juvenile Detention Center, according to state police.
At approximately 6:40 p.m. Monday, Craig was arrested by the Versailles Police Department without incident in Versailles, Kentucky State Police said.
An escape charge was added to the two counts of murder-domestic violence already filed against him in the slayings of his mother, Tefani Noe, 33, and his little sister, 12-year-old Brooke Goggin. He escaped the Fayette County Juvenile Detention Center about 3:45 p.m. Sunday.
The state police investigation into Craig’s escape is ongoing.
After he fled Sunday, Craig was considered “dangerous and a threat to public safety,” state police said.
“We just hope that ... Luke would turn himself in and we can resolve this without any further incident,” Sgt. Bernis Napier said before Craig was apprehended.
Central Kentucky was the focal point of the search for Craig, Napier said. But law enforcement agencies across the state had been alerted about Craig’s escape.
Investigators contacted family members to let them know Craig had escaped and to ask if they had contact with him, Napier said. It was unclear if any had contact with him.
Police had received “several phone calls” regarding possible sightings of the teen, Napier said.
About 9:30 p.m. Sept. 24, Noe and Brooke were found dead in their house on Corinth Road in Anderson County. Both died of gunshot wounds, the county coroner told the Anderson News.
Craig allegedly fled police after the killings. Wave 3 News reported that the teen led law enforcement on a chase through Anderson, Franklin and Shelby counties before he was stopped on the Watterson Expressway and arrested.
Craig’s booking photo indicated he was jailed in the early-morning hours of Sept. 25.
