New Orleans police looking for car in fatal hit-and-run

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans police are looking for a dark-colored car — possibly a BMW 3-Series sedan — with heavy front-end damage in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 62-year-old bicyclist.

Witnesses have told police that the bicycle rider ran a red light on New Orleans' west bank and pedaled onto a divided six-lane street shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, according to police news releases.

Police say the car stopped briefly, then drove away.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at a hospital. He would have turned 63 in August. The coroner's office has not released his name.

The car is missing parts of its front grill, police said. Evidence indicates it may be a BMW 3-Series sedan, police spokesman Aaron Looney said Monday.
