As Gauteng appears to have passed the peak of the third wave of Covid-19 infections, Tshwane has recorded a week-on-week decrease of over 7 000 active cases.
In a statement on Monday, Tshwane Mayor Randall Williams said the city had recorded another weekly decrease in active infections of Covid-19.
"According to our most recent Covid-19 report, active cases have dropped to 17 338 as of this Monday, 19 July," Williams said.
"The significant decrease in Covid-19 active cases is welcome as we move through the third wave. In the previous week, the number of Covid-19 active cases stood at 25 491."
Williams added that new daily infections have also been decreasing and that Tshwane is currently recording between 1 000 to 2 000 new infections daily.

In the first week of July, News24 reported that new confirmed daily infections in Tshwane reached record highs, ranging between 3 000 and 4 000 cases per day.
On 4 July, the city had 26 796 confirmed active infections.
"While we are making some progress with decreasing Covid-19 active cases, it is important that we remain vigilant and play our part to stop the spread of Covid-19," Williams said.
"I would also like to encourage qualifying residents to register for vaccination. The city currently has 32 public vaccination sites spread across various regions."
"We have a professional team of healthcare workers ready to assist and vaccinate residents. We welcome the 35-49 age group to the vaccination programme. I want to encourage all qualifying residents to register to receive their vaccines."
According to Gauteng provincial government Covid-19 statistics, as of 19 July, Tshwane has recorded 225 054 confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic.
The city had also recorded 4 365 Covid-19 related deaths.
Tshwane is the second worst-hit region in Gauteng, behind Johannesburg, that has recorded 323 214 infections, and 4 668 confirmed Covid-19 related deaths as of 19 July.
The province has recorded 816 240 Covid-19 infections and 15 391 Covid-19 related deaths.
