Two found dead in York river and Sheffield lake

A body has been discovered in a lake at a South Yorkshire beauty spot.

Emergency crews were called to Crookes Valley Park in Sheffield at about 19:30 BST on Sunday after receiving calls that a man had got into difficulty in the water.

South Yorkshire Police said an underwater search team recovered a body just before midnight.

Meanwhile, the body of a man in his 50s was also recovered from the River Ouse in York on Sunday.

Kayakers near the Water End Bridge alerted emergency services just before 17:00 BST.

North Yorkshire Police said officers believed they knew the dead man's identity and his next-of-kin had been informed.

At Pugneys Country Park in Wakefield an underwater search was carried out after emergency services were called at 13:15 BST on Sunday.

West Yorkshire Police said nobody had been found.
