GREATER NOIDA: The younger brother of an IAS officer allegedly died by suicide in Greater Noida on Friday after he failed to clear the UPSC examination despite four attempts.
Anoop Singh (34) was working as an IT engineer.
In a one-page suicide note found near his body at his rented accommodation in Gaur City-2 society, Anoop mentioned that he was in depression for the past ten years.
He wrote that despite several attempts, he failed to clear the UPSC examination and his family members failed to understand him and his poor financial situation.
According to the police, Anoop took the extreme step in absence of his wife who is also working with a private pharmaceutical company.
A police officer told TOI that Anoop hanged self with a ceiling fan using a cloth when his wife was at work.
“He had locked himself before hanging. His wife had a spare key and she was shocked to see him dead when she returned home,” he said.
Her neighbours informed police and a team went to the spot and sent the body for post mortem.
The deceased’s brother is an IAS officer and is serving as a district magistrate in Jharkhand.
In another case, a 20-year-old jobless youth died by suicide in Phase II area area of Greater Noida on Thursday night.
Shahjahanpur native Abhishek had come to Noida just 10 days ago.
He was staying with his maternal uncle in his rented accommodation in Yakubpur village.
He hanged himself from a ceiling fan when his uncle was away at work.
A police officer told TOI that Abhishek had come to Noida in search of work. “He wanted to work as a labourer and was alone when he took the extreme step,” he said.
