Shannon told The Daily Telegraph, she battles the 'model stereotype on a day-to-day basis'.
'Modelling is just a job and when you take off all of the hair and the glam and the outfits, you see me underneath and I do classify myself as a survivor,' she said.
'I've got past family trauma and being in the industry that I am in, I'm a tough cookie. I wanted to challenge myself in the toughest game that there is.'

The upcoming new Survivor Australia Brains v Brawn season will feature a twist, with intelligent strategists who are outstanding in their field taking on buff athletes.
Shannon will compete on the show alongside award-winning author Wai Chim and AFL star Gavin Wanganeen.
A political operative named George, a prison officer named Dani and big wave surfer Felicity Palmateer will also be starring on the series.

The new season was filmed in the vast outback of North West Queensland.
It was announced back in February that this season will be filmed locally after Ten secured government funding to shoot closer to home due to the global pandemic.
The Location Incentive Program grant provided $3.9million for the reality show and is expected to inject a boost into the local economy.
Australian Survivor: Brains V Brawn will premiere on July 18 at 7.30pm on Channel 10
