At least 25 people died in house collapse incidents in Mumbai due to heavy rains overnight. Along with this, local train services and traffic are also affected due to waterlogging and torrential rains in the city. The Western Railway and Central Railway have temporarily suspended suburban train services in Mumbai due to heavy rains and many long-distance trains have either been diverted or operated from other stations, officials said.

According to reports, a portion of the boundary wall of Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) behind Bharat Nagar at Washinaka in the Chembur area collapsed. There were several huts under the wall which got buried and 18 people have died so far. Similarly, in Vikhroli too, a building collapsed due to a landslide killing five people so far. At the same time, a 16-year-old boy died when the wall of the forest department premises collapsed in suburban Bhandup.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the accidents and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each from the National Relief Fund to the families of those who died in the accident and Rs 50 thousand to each the injured.

Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to wall collapses in Mumbai. Rs. 50,000 would be given to those injured.

CM Udhav Thackeray also offered his condolences to the victims. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased.

The Honble CM has directed the NDRF, MCGM, Fire Brigade & Police to continue their coordinated rescue efforts.

The next of kin of those who lost their lives in the mishap will receive 5 lakh each from the State & those injured will be provided with free medical treatment.

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rains throughout the day in Mumbai and its neighbouring areas today.
