Ahead of the Sansad Gherao call given by the farmers during its monsoon session from Monday, 7 Metro station – Janpath, Lok Kalyan Marg, Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Mandi House and Udyog Bhawan- would be close due to security reasons.
In view of the Parliament protest, the Delhi Police has directed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to keep extra vigil at seven metro stations and close them if needed. After meeting with the delegation of farmers ahead of their planned protest, the DMRC has directed the authorities to put these seven metro stations on alert.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of over 40 farmer unions, has planned that around 200 farmers will hold protests outside parliament every day during the monsoon session.
Farmer unions have given a protest call till the end of the monsoon session outside Parliament to repeal Centre’s three farm laws and get a legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP).
The police also requested the DMRC to make more changes in the metro services based on police information or if the situation worsens during the protest.
The SKM recently issued a warning letter to all opposition MPs to protest against the Centre’s three farm laws inside the house.
Thousands of farmers from across the country have been camping at the Delhi borders against the three farm laws and several rounds of talks have been held between the Centre and farmer leaders to break the deadlock between the two parties.
The Sansad Gherao call by the farmer union leaders have been taken to intensify their nearly eight-month-long protest till the scheduled end of Parliament’s monsoon session demanding to repeal three farm laws and a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Assuring the Central government and the people that the protest near the Parliament will be a peaceful, the BKU leader Rakesh Tikait had said on Wednesday that the protestors will sit outside the Parliament while proceedings will continue in the House. His statement came in the wake of apprehensions of violence, like the one witnessed on the Republic Day when the farmers reached Red Fort as a part of their tractor rally protest.
