Chandigarh: City residents are likely to get some relief from the sweltering heat as the UT Met Centre has forecast light rain during the next 48 hours. “Light rain or thundershower activity is likely during the next 48 hours. Thereafter, rain activity is likely to increase in intensity from July 18 to 20,” the Met office said. The maximum temperature in the city on Friday was 36.8°C, three degrees above normal, and the minimum was 27.6°C, four degrees above normal. TNS 

Father gets RI for molesting girl

Chandigarh: Holding guilty for offence under Section 10 of the POCSO Act, a local court has awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment to a man for molesting his minor daughter. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the convict. However, the convict has been acquitted of the offences under 376(3) of IPC and section 6 of the POCSO Act 2012. The police have registered the case in 2019. The girl had alleged that his father molested her when she was alone in her jhuggi. TNS

Mishap victim succumbs

Zirakpur: Five days after an unidentified car driver hit a cyclist near the godown area in Zirakpur, the youth died at the GMCH-32 here on Friday. On a complaint of Suresh Prasad of Raipur Khurd, the police have registered a case of negligent driving against an unknown driver. The accident happened on Sunday around 11 pm. TNS
