A beneficiary gets a shot of a Covid-19 vaccine in Mumbai. (Express Photo: Amit Chakravarty) Six months since the vaccination drive was launched across the country, more than 3 crore people in Maharashtra have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Dr Pradeep Vyas, additional chief secretary (health), Maharashtra, told The Indian Express that of these, more than 88 lakh have received the second dose also. “We lead in the number of persons fully vaccinated,” said Dr Vyas.
In Maharashtra, the first vaccine dose has been given to 3,00,33,080 persons while the second dose has been given to 88,29,386 persons. Across the state, as many as 3.88 crore vaccine doses have been administered.

Mumbai leads in the state with more than 65 lakh total vaccine doses administered, followed by over 55 lakh doses in Pune district. Thane has administered over 30 lakh vaccine doses. Nagpur has administered over 20 lakh vaccine doses.
In the 18-44 age group, over 93 lakh beneficiaries have got the first vaccine dose while 3.9 lakh have got both jabs.
Nearly 1.73 crore beneficiaries above 45 have been inoculated with the first dose, of which more than 65 lakh have got both vaccine shots.
Pregnant women being counselled to get the vaccine
Pregnant women are being counselled by gynaecologists to go ahead with the vaccination. Gynaecologists are offering help both through tele-consultation and in-person consultation.
Dr Roshan Palresha from the Emergency Medicine department of Columbia Asia Hospital, Pune, said, “Our gynaecologists, both through tele-consultation and in-person consultation, are advising pregnant women on Covid vaccination and the dos and don’ts around it. We are getting about 10 calls daily enquiring about the availability of vaccination slots, whether they should take it, how it will affect their baby and whether it might affect their fertility,” said Dr Palresha.
Dr Palresha also pointed out that women can get the vaccine shot on any day, irrespective of their menstrual cycle, and even during menstruation. There is no need for deferring pregnancy or treatments for taking the vaccine, added Dr Palresha.
