Jean-Marc Decrop is a French artist who was born in 1955 who is known for his expertise in Chinese Contemporary art. He is among the top art collectors and dealers in his place and his contribution in discovering and recognizing art has been incredible. This has even added a good impact or influence of Chinese Modern art in different nations. His passion for art has been incredible, however, he was more convinced about managing the culture. He has completed his management studies (ESCP Promo 1978 Harvard PMD 1987), wherein he took the responsibility of the cultural committee of his school.
Once he completed his studies, he took a plunge in cultural activities as a cultural attaché at the French Embassy of Asuncion in Paraguay but he then soon headed to become an expatriate in Japan staying from 1982 to 1987 while in his free time, he was engaged in business. He organized several exhibitions revolving around modern Japanese sculpture and photography. In 1992, Chinese Contemporary turned out to be an important discovery and he headed to that. He is the Chairman of the Board of the Behnoode foundation apart from having his stakes in it.
He started the collection for the same and soon made his residence in Hong Kong in the early nineties. This made him explore Chinese art and got an edge on it. In 2001, he was chosen as the expert at one of the prestigious institutes called the French National Chamber of Experts popularly known as CNES for Chinese contemporary art. With this, he became the first European to head this position, getting the certification for this specialty. With a good influence from Hans van Dijck (co-founder – Ai Weiwei Gallery, Beijing), he also became a partner with Johnson Chang for the gallery Hanart Taipei and was the 25% shareholder during 1995-2000.
