Orioles activate RHP Jorge Lopez off bereavement list

The Baltimore Orioles activated right-hander Jorge Lopez from the bereavement list on Saturday.

No corresponding move was necessary. Baltimore's 26-man roster is full.

Lopez, 28, who had been away from the Orioles for the last three days, will start Saturday night's game at the Kansas City Royals. In 18 starts this season, Lopez is 2-12 with a 5.95 ERA.

Lopez's 12 losses are the most in the majors by two. Orioles teammate Matt Harvey and Cincinnati Reds right-hander Luis Castillo each have 10 defeats.

"Physically, I don't feel tired," Lopez said after his latest loss, July 9 against the Chicago White Sox. "Mentally maybe, to stay over, and over and over at the same spot. It gets you down. But I'm a strong man. I have a family, and they give me strength."

Saturday night's start marks Lopez's return to Kansas City, where he's 1-6 with a 7.93 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in 21 games (11 starts). He pitched for the Royals from 2018-20 before the Orioles claimed him off waivers in August.
