Coronavirus Statistics India, Covid-19 Cases and Deaths in India on July 17 Live Updates: A total of 38,079 new cases of Coronavirus were reported in the last 24 hours taking the active case number to 4.24 lakh in the country. Amidst fears of the third wave of Coronavirus in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a meeting with a select group of Chief Ministers said that state governments must take all precautions to avert the third wave in the country. The meeting called by PM Modi was attended by Chief Ministers of the six states which have been reporting an increase in the number of Coronavirus cases including Kerala, Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. PM Modi in the meeting mentioned that more than 80 percent of Coronavirus cases and Covid-19 related deaths had come from these six states in the last week and said that testing, tracking, treating and vaccinating should be the strategy of the state governments.

Meanwhile, the central government taking a cautious approach told the Supreme Court that Kanwar Yatra should not be permitted by the state governments in view of the Covid-19 situation. The centre also told the court that states should devise a tanker system through which the holy water of the Ganges can be made available to the devotees in different parts of the country. Firm on allowing the Kanwar Yatra in the state, the government of Uttar Pradesh helmed by CM Yogi Adityanath was also asked by the top court to reconsider its decision of allowing the Kanwar Yatra in the state this year.

On the global front, Japan which is going to conduct the Olympic Games this year said that one Covid-19 positive case has been detected at the Tokyo Olympic village. The spiralling of cases in different parts of the country and more such incidents could have implications for the successful conduct of Olympic Games this year.

    Coronavirus Live Tracker: South Korea sees 11th straight day over 1,000 cases

    South Korea has reported another new 1,455 cases of the coronavirus, its 11th straight day over 1,000, as officials push to tighten pandemic restrictions nationwide. The numbers reported by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on Saturday brought the national caseload to 176,500, including 2,055 deaths. The record-breaking surge has been mostly driven by transmissions in the greater Seoul region, home to half of the country's population of more than 51 million. Officials here have enforced the country's toughest social distancing restrictions, which prohibit private social gatherings of three or more people after 6 p.m., ban visitors at hospitals and nursing homes, and shut down nightclubs and churches.     Coronavirus Live Tracker: India records 38,079 fresh Covid cases, 560 deaths

    India recorded 38,079 new coronavirus cases, which took the infection tally to 3,10,64,908, while the death toll reached 4,13,091 with 560 more fatalities, according to Union health ministry data updated on Saturday. The active cases have declined to 4,24,025 and comprise 1.36 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.31 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed. It said that active COVID-19 cases have decreased by 6,397 in a span of 24 hours. (PTI)

    Coronavirus Live Tracker: Maha's Thane district reports 481 new cases, twelve deaths

    With the addition of 481 coronavirus positive cases, the infection count in Thane district of Maharashtra mounted to 5,39,876, an official said on Saturday. These cases were reported on Friday, he said. The virus claimed the lives of 12 patients, which pushed the death toll in the district to 10,892. Thane's current COVID-19 mortality rate is 2.01 per cent, he added. (PTI)

    Coronavirus Live Tracker: First vaccinations given in Haiti since start of pandemic

    Health care workers and senior citizens were the first people vaccinated on Friday in Haiti as part of a test run after the country recently received 5,00,000 doses from the United Nations. The vaccinations were given to more than 30 people at the Hospital University of Peace in the capital of Port Au Prince under the supervision of Haiti's Health Ministry, the Pan American Health Organization said. On Wednesday, Haiti received its first vaccine doses since the pandemic began as part of a US donation to the United Nations' COVAX program for low-income countries. (PTI)

    Coronavirus Live Tracker: Punjab records 104 new cases

    Punjab on Friday reported 104 fresh cases of coronavirus, raising the infection count to 5,98,130, while two more deaths pushed the fatality toll to 16,215, a medical bulletin said. The two deaths were reported from Kapurthala and Muktsar, it said. Ferozepur reported 20 infections, followed by 15 in Bathinda and 13 in Jalandhar, as per the bulletin. The number of active cases in the state is 1,238. With 194 more recoveries, the number of cured persons reached 5,80,677, it stated. (PTI)

    Coronavirus Live Tracker: Bengal reports 882 new Covid cases, 17 deaths

    The COVID-19 positivity rate in West Bengal on Friday declined to 1.54 per cent as 882 new cases of the infection were reported from various parts of the state, the health department said in a bulletin. The tally thus rose to 15,13,877, it added. The death toll went up to 17,944 after 17 more fatalities were registered in the last 24 hours. North 24 Parganas district accounted for three deaths while Kolkata registered one fatality, the bulletin said. Since Thursday, 1,186 recoveries were reported in the state which improved the discharge rate further to 97.88 per cent. So far, 14,81,742 people have recovered from the disease in West Bengal.
