Chandigarh, July 16
Supporting the public whip issued by farmers protesting the farm laws to the MPs, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday wrote an open letter to the MPs of all political parties, urging them to unite on the issue to force the central government to accept the farmers’ demands.
In his letter, state president and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann said the farmers had been protesting for more than over a year, with many of them losing their lives to get the farm laws repealed, but still the Centre hadn’t shown any seriousness in listening to them.
“As the president of the Aam Aadmi Party, Punjab, and Member of Parliament from the Lok Sabha as well as the son of a farmer, I urge you all to unite on the issue of the farmers and attack the Narendra Modi-led centre government, so that they take a firm decision,” he wrote in an open letter.
AAP’s anti-farmer stance exposed: CM
- CM Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday slammed the AAP over its criticism of his government’s decision on debt waiver for farm labourers and landless farmers, saying it had exposed Arvind Kejriwal’s party’s anti-farmer stance
- He said the waiver was not an announcement made on the eve of the 2022 Assembly polls but a promise contained in the Punjab Congress manifesto
He appealed to all the MPs to raise their voice against the farm laws by avoiding boycott or walkout in view of the appeal made by the farmers during this session. “It is our responsibility as well as our religion to convey their voice to the rulers,” he wrote.
Mann said the AAP had been raising the voice of the farmers from the very beginning and the issues of the farmers would be raised loudly during the session. — TNS
