VHP, Warkari Sampraday activists stage agitation in Parbhani

Parbhani, Jul 17 (UNI) The activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Warkari Sampraday on Saturday resorted to Bhajan agitation in front of district collector's office to protest against atrocities on warkaris, insult to the flag of Bhagwat Dharma and detention of senior 'kirtankar' Bandatatya Karadkar.
The protesters expressed that the state government's opposition to the 'wari' (procession) of the Warkaris to Pandharpur to pay obeisance to the presiding deity Lord Vitthala on Ashadi Ekadashi was an act of deliberate atrocity committed on Warkaris, through police force, by taking advantage of the natural calamity.
They pointed out that the detention of Mr Karadkar was also a form of the same.
"Forcing Warakaris to take off their traditional attire in the streets, disregarding the flag of Bhagwat Dharma (a symbol of Hindutva and Maharashtra culture), arresting innocent devotees of Hari Bhakt Parayan, treating them as criminals. It is a highly reprehensible act to obstruct the Warkaris at various places and to oppress them by showing administrative power," they noted.
The Constitution guarantees citizens the right and freedom to worship and no one can hurt them, they said.
They demanded to respectfully release Mr Karadkar and all the Warkaris who have been stopped at various places, immediately withdraw all the crimes committed against them, Chaturmas Seva and traditional festival in temples in various parts of Maharashtra from Ashadi Ekadashi.
They also demanded to lift 20 curbs on organising saptah, kirtan, discourses, darshan should be removed among others.
The agitators warned that if the contempt of Warkaris was not stopped, they would take to the streets and intensify their agitation.
