Veteran actress Surekha Sikri dies of cardiac arrest at 75 in Mumbai

Veteran actor Surekha Sikri who was best known for her role in Balika Vadhu has died on Friday at the age of 75 due to a cardiac arrest.  Sikri’s manager confirmed the news.

Her manager told the media that Sikri was not in a good health the past few months,  she had suffered a brain stroke in 2020, she took her last breath earlier this morning, her manager said.

Her manager said Sikri’s family wants to perform her last right in privacy without the involvement of the media.

Earlier, In 2020, Sikri was admitted to the hospital in Mumbai after suffering from a brain stroke, It was also reported that the actor was going through a financial crisis at the time, which she later denied.

Earlier, in 2018, In an interview, Surekha told the media that she had a brain stroke after which she fell in the bathroom and hit her head on the floor while shooting in Mahabaleshwar.

Surekha Sikri started her career in 1978, with the movie Kissa Kursi Ka. The actor won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress thrice for her acting in in Tamas (1988), Badhaai Ho (2018) and  Mammo (1995).  Her performance in the Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Badhaai Ho drew immense applauds as it was her career’s comeback. The actor gained a massive fan following for her role as a Dadi in the primetime soap opera Balika Vadhu.

The actor was last seen in Zoya Akhtar’s short film on the Netflix Ghost Stories, where she got massive applauds for her role.
