Kids want to go to school, but parents worry about safety

Harish Kumar, a resident of Sector 12, said while offline classes were better than online and they did want their children to go to school, they were afraid for their health. Another parent, Seema Kapoor said “With both me and my husband working, it is hard to take care of kids’ online education but sending them to school is a risk at the moment. We prefer to keep them at home.”
A Class IX student said he wanted to go to school and meet his friends but his parents were not giving permission due to the pandemic. A Class XI student said, “I am going to school on the first day of its reopening as I am tired of online classes and my parents have agreed to it as well.”
Another Class XII student, Ramneek Singh, a resident of Sector 15 said, “I will go to school but will follow Covid protocol. I want to study in school but do not want Covid.”
Harleen Kaur, a Class IX student suggested that the government start vaccinating children under 18 on the lines of the US.
Parents Association members said that while many parents wanted to send their children to school, they wanted all Covid protocols followed strictly in both the school and school buses. They also wanted the administration to conduct surprise visits in schools to check if Covid protocol was being followed or not.
Meanwhile, former deputy CM Chander Mohan wrote a letter urging the education minister to reconsider the decision to reopen schools.
