This will be the state-run space agency's second launch of 2021 after Brazilian Amazonia-1 was injected into orbit by a PSLV rocket in February. The indian space research organisation (ISRO) says it has no plans to launch any more than two launches in the next five years. Dr. K Sivan, Chairman isro mentioned.

On august 12th, India's medium-lift capability rocket, the GSLV Mk2, will launch GISAT-1. This was more of an internal deadline, according to Dr. Sivan than an actual launch date. He stated that the exact day and hour of the official launch will be disclosed later.

Isro's GISAT-1 satellite will be launched into Geostationary Orbit, 36,000 kilometers above the earth's surface (GEO) At regular intervals, the satellite will offer near-real-time imagery of vast areas of interest. Agriculture, forestry, mineralogy, disaster warning, cloud characteristics, snow & glaciers, and oceanography all have spectral fingerprints. Low-earth-orbit satellites, on the other hand, may make a pass every 110 minutes or so to take photos and gather data. isro relies heavily on the indian industry for the manufacture and construction of rocket parts, fuel, and components.

The launch of GISAT-1 was initially scheduled for march 2020, however, it was postponed due to technical issues and later due to the pandemic. GISAT is a low-earth-orbit satellite that will track cyclones and other quickly shifting weather phenomena. If GISat-1 is continuously monitoring a cyclone or a comparable storm, the satellites can also obtain higher-quality pictures from a closer range.

ISRO stopped its launch activity during the second wave of the pandemic in India, but the agency participated in the COVID-19 battle by increasing liquid oxygen production (for hospitals), repurposing its storage tanks for oxygen, and creating low-cost ventilators, among other things.
