BhaskarLive Desk, 16-Jul-2021, Bhopal| With the origin of the COVID-19, the virus has mutated several times. Every multiplication gives rise to new confusion, research and questions regarding the infectiousness and severity of the virus. The Delta variant being mainly responsible for the second wave in the country emerged in India and became more infectious than the original one. It further mutated to form the Delta Plus variant. Besides, there are other profoundly contagious variants like Kappa and Lambda that have raised red alerts. However, the World Health Organization has classified Kappa as a ‘variant of interest’, while Delta is a ‘variant of concern’ signifying it to be a far bigger threat.

Being the dominant strain, Delta variant has been widely discussed and is now in circulation in the Indian population. However, the Kappa variant is did not gather many talks, also the reason being that it used to be known by a different name earlier. The World Health Organization gave it the name ‘Kappa’ only a few weeks ago. And by now, its presence in the Indian population has decreasing by every day.

Moreover, the variant which is most vicious right now is the Delta variant. This variant virus has significantly high transmissibility and it even has accounted for the outbreak in several other countries. According to the reports, it also causes more severe symptoms than the original strain of Corona Virus. And to add up to our miseries, research suggests that the covid-19 vaccines are eight times less effective against this variant.

Furthermore, the delta variant has an update version of itself popularly known as the delta plus variant. It is suspected to trigger the 3rd wave of COVID-19 in the western state. In fact, the mutant can also lead to severe symptoms and hospitalization. The initial case was found in Maharashtra and was responsible for a majority of infections. Its long term effects include joint pain and hearing impairment. The Delta plus variant has been found in nine other countries across the world apart from India.

Hence, the best people can do right now is to keep themselves away from crowded place. Do not forget that the triple harmful third wave is round the corner. Do not take off your masks; in fact wearing double mask is most profitable. At the same time keep proper sanitation and taking healthy meal is advised by the World Health Organization.
