Grease prequel series Rise Of The Pink Ladies greenlit at Paramount+ for 10-episode season
A prequel series to the iconic 1978 movie musical Grease has been picked up for 10 episodes at Paramount+.
Grease: Rise Of The Pink Ladies will chart the formation of the famous girl group from the original Broadway show and its film adaptation.
While the movie follows its characters during their senior year at Rydell High School the show will show them as freshmen, Deadline revealed Friday.

In the movie the Pink Ladies were a beloved troupe of supporting characters whose nickname came from the color of their matching jackets.
Stockard Channing played its queen bee Rizzo who suffers a crack in her sardonic exterior when she undergoes a pregnancy scare.
Didi Conn as Frenchy, Jamie Donnelly as Jan and Dinah Manoff as Marty made up the rest of the Pink Ladies group.
Although the movie came out in 1978 it is actually set exactly 20 years earlier and revolves around the 'greaser' youth culture of the 1950s.

The original stage version of the musical opened on Broadway in 1971 with a book and score by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey.
Annabel Oakes is writing and showrunning Grease: Rise Of The Pink Ladies which was initially at HBO Max until it was dropped last year.

The original Grease film was a massive success - at the time the top-grossing movie musical ever - and resulted in a flop 1982 sequel starring Michelle Pfeiffer.

Three years ago Fox aired a televised live production of Grease starring Vanessa Hudgens who went ahead with the taping despite her father's death one day prior.
In addition to the Pink Ladies show Grease is also now getting a prequel film called Summer Lovin' - the title of one of the original movie's most famous songs.
Brett Haley - who helmed the 2015 movie I'll See You In My Dreams starring Blythe Danner - is directing Summer Lovin' according to Deadline.
