Cardinals select contract of LHP T.J. McFarland

The St. Louis Cardinals reached into the minors for some bullpen depth on Friday, selecting the contract of left-hander T.J. McFarland from Triple-A Memphis and adding him to the 40-man roster.

To make room for McFarland on the team's 40-man roster, Waddell was placed on the COVID injured list at Memphis.

The Cardinals signed McFarland, 32, to a minor league contract on July 1 following his release from the Washington Nationals' Triple-A Rochester affiliate.

McFarland has won 20 of his 34 career decisions, posting a 4.08 ERA in 285 games (three starts) with the Baltimore Orioles (2013-16), Arizona Diamondbacks (2017-19) and Oakland Athletics (2020).

At Memphis this month, McFarland allowed two earned runs in seven innings and was 1-0 with one save.

With Rochester, he appeared in 18 games and had a 1-2 record with a 5.25 ERA and a save.
